Meet Rachel Cafferty

We were lucky to catch up with Rachel Cafferty recently and have shared our conversation below.

Rachel, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

In a lot of ways, optimism is realism. Both personally and professionally, I have survived everything in my life so far, and will continue to. Even if it is painful. Even if it doesn’t go the way I expected or wanted. I will figure it out and I will be okay. There is always some good in every situation, even if it only feels like an iota. For me, choosing to reflect on reality with that lens – the one that scouts for the silver lining, the lesson, the growth – is empowering.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I launched a retail business, Story & Teller, last fall and opened the brick-and-mortar in April. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to connect with so many people in the storefront, sharing the unique pieces from over 50 Makers that I collaborate with so far. I’m also excited to share that I relaunched the service side of my business, Studio S&T, which offers interior decorating, home staging, and organization to clients looking for professional support in their home or business. I love everything related to home and am eager to help new clients create that magical feeling of rootedness and ease in their own space.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three that immediately come to mind are interpersonal skills, accounting fundamentals, and trust. Ultimately, networking has been one of the most powerful outlets for me – learning processes I am unfamiliar with, collaborating to spread the word and build connections, and growing my circle. I’ve always been relatively comfortable connecting with people, but have definitely had to lean into it in full on my entrepreneurial venture. If it doesn’t come naturally to you, break it down into smaller goals, like reach out to 3 business owners you admire per month.

If you are looking to start your own business, I cannot stress enough how helpful it is to learn some accounting fundamentals, particularly cashflow planning. This is where networking can also come into play. If you don’t have any experience with accounting, then find an advisor or mentor that can share their knowledge with you to get started. I had a vision for my business, but the only way it turned into a reality was by putting financial structure around it.

The last one is interesting because it actually takes trust in yourself. I very recently launched my business and have had my fair share of challenges so far. I don’t know what the future holds, but I have to trust that I can figure it out and can find a course forward. Learn, grow, repeat.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Now that I have relaunched the service side of S&T, I am eager to collaborate with clients to enhance their homes with expert styling or organization. If you are someone who appreciates a beautiful environment that feels both personal and functional, then I would love to connect. Perhaps you have a bedroom that feels uninspired, or a pantry that is in disarray, or a bathroom that you’ve been meaning to do something with for years but don’t know where to start. I’m here for you. To listen and learn about your hopes and visions then turn them into a reality. I have 5 different packages that I offer to help you make your home the sanctuary you’re dreaming about, whether you just need help with a small project or a full room refresh. You can learn more at my website under “Services” and then submit an inquiry at the bottom of that page to set up an initial call.
