Meet Shyia Simmons

We recently connected with Shyia Simmons and have shared our conversation below.

Shyia, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I found my purpose in 2018 when I spoke at a public speaking engagement for young girls. After I finished speaking, many young girls came to me in tears to share their stories and tell me how much they admired me. That day, I realized my purpose was to teach and inspire. Since then, I’ve incorporated this mission into everything I do, whether it’s doing or teaching makeup or creating and sharing content or simply living my life and sharing the benefits of what comes from the things I do.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m a makeup artist & I also teach makeup. I’ve been doing makeup for the past 13 years. I love that I get to make women feel beautiful & boost up their confidence. I also love being able to teach women how to do their own makeup as well so that they can carry confidence with them everywhere they go. I got into content creation about 2 and a half years ago & i absolutely love it. I’m able to influence my audience to think differently, experience new things & showcase amazing products & places for them to try themselves as well. I have built a loyal following on several of my platforms & my audience looks forward to my daily posting. I now offer virtual classes for those that want to get into becoming an influencer. I help them get brand deals & build up a loyal following as well.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back the 3 qualities that was the most impactful on my journey would have to be discipline, resilience & being calm. I’d like to thank going to college to help me with discipline. This was the first time in my life I had to show up and be my best self. I was determined to make honor roll, graduate with honors & being the first person in my family to go to college I definitely had to become disciplined in a way no one had ever taught me to be. Today, my discipline shows up in my workouts. I love going to Pilates classes, water aerobics & walking 3 miles on nature walks. I also make sure I show up for my brand on a daily to continue to strive for success. When it comes to resilience I realize that’s just something that comes with the journey of going after success. There will be plenty of set backs and you just have to keep the ball rolling. I’ve gotten my page stolen & had to start from scratch and that showed my audience how resilient I really was. Last but not least, staying calm has definitely help me be emotional mature. I listen to frequency sounds every night to bed & practice meditation and breathing exercises to make sure that when problems arise I keep a clear head and make the best decisions going forward.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Yes, I have been wanting to collaborate with Rihanna forever. My dream collaboration will be becoming a savage x ambassador & also a fenty beauty ambassador. I also have always been a big fan of M.A.C Cosmetics. I was once a M.A.C girl & I took so much pride in my job. Collaborating with M.A.C would be a full circle moment for me.
