Meet Anna Sims

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anna Sims. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anna below.

Anna , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Overcoming imposter syndrome as a young female farmer in the heart of Texas has been a challenging yet empowering journey. In my early 30s, I often find myself in a position where people question my abilities and knowledge. It’s not easy to be taken seriously in an industry dominated by tradition and skepticism, especially when you’re striving to break the mold.

Every day, I battle severe anxiety that can be debilitating. Despite this, I am determined to become a woman who stands firm on her ground. I know what I’m capable of and what I can achieve, given the time. On days when I have to put on a brave face and pretend everything is going smoothly, I might be shaking inside like a chihuahua, but I push through. I remind myself that time passes and these feelings are temporary. I will get through them.

Coming from a traumatic childhood with little true support, I learned to navigate the world on my own from a young age. This experience taught me that not every emotional response reflects reality. I’ve had to learn to decipher my feelings and ground myself amidst the emotional challenges I face. Sometimes, putting on a different face and creating an imposter persona helps me get through situations that feel overwhelming. I embody the successful business owner I know I’m becoming.

Through sheer determination and resilience, I am growing into the person I aspire to be. I am committed to providing fresh, high-quality produce to my community and proving that I am more than capable of thriving in this field. My journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and self-belief, and I am proud of the progress I have made.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My name is Anna, and I am the proud owner of Modern Hippie Life Farm LLC along with my husband Joseph in Gholson, Texas. While we are relatively new to the public, we’ve been growing our own food for some time now. Last year marked our first official year, and it was filled with challenges. We faced hardship after hardship, including a hailstorm that destroyed over two thousand melons in just twenty minutes. This year, we’ve battled rain, insects, and hordes of deer, but we’ve persevered.

Our primary goal has always been to provide quality food that wouldn’t trigger our children’s severe allergies. My oldest child started getting rashes as early as six months old, prompting us to completely overhaul everything we used in our home. Her rash disappeared after we made the switch, and we discovered a new way of life that felt liberating. It began with changing our soaps and food, and before we knew it, we had even thrown out the microwave. We’ve always been drawn to a more natural lifestyle.

After about ten years of living completely naturally and cutting out all harmful chemicals, I realized I wanted to know where my food came from at all times. When we were blessed with some acreage in the Waco area, we decided to put it to good use. It was also the perfect opportunity to build from home because my youngest child cannot attend school due to limitations from severe brain surgery at 18 months old. Fortunately, we’ve always homeschooled, and this allowed us to teach our kids this way of life while providing the community with quality produce grown by loving hands.

Growing up, this was not the lifestyle I envisioned. I wanted to be a psychologist or a meteorologist, and I’ve never been one to stay in one place for too long. As I got older, life threw its challenges my way, leading to anxiety and depression that I had to fight hard to overcome. Living this lifestyle and being a true farmer has profoundly changed my outlook and humbled me in many ways. As a young adult or child, I never imagined I would say, “I’m a farmer of an all-natural farm.” But God gives us the cup, and it’s up to us to fill it—and I will let it overflow.

We currently are growing five acres of five different varieties of all seeded heirloom, watermelons. We are Canning pickles and watermelon jam on the daily. We’ve got hydroponic brandywine tomatoes that will be ready very soon. Also tons of hydroponic greens available fresh from the farm, and we also sell out of a local market called Drug emporium. We can be found on facebook, instagram, tiktok, threads and x. Just search Modern hippie life farm LLC.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

About eleven years ago, I delved deeply into the world of essential oils and discovered the profound healing power of the earth. This journey taught me how to balance frequencies, understand the vagus nerve, and utilize natural elements in our environment to heal the mind, body, and spirit. My studies in Reiki, aromatherapy, natural farming, healing the land and energy medicine have all contributed to my current mission: providing nourishment for our mind, body, and soul directly from the land.

I have taken numerous online courses and studied extensively to ensure that I can offer the most nutritious, natural goodness to our community. We’re just getting started, so keep an eye out for us. We plan to expand and grow in numerous ways to provide the best quality food possible. As we learn and grow as individuals, so too will our farm.

My advice is to truly ground yourself. Discover where you feel most rooted and find balance amidst your daily chaos. Until you learn to navigate the storm, the waters will never calm down. After you find your piece, you can achieve anything. No matter how big the mountain may seem.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

We absolutely love collaborating with fellow nature enthusiasts. Currently, we have a partnership with a local food market in Waco, where we grow produce based on customer requests. If a customer comes in with a specific request, I make it my mission to figure out a way to grow it and make it happen. Additionally, we have worked with several local bakeries and caterers, providing them with unique ingredients that are typically hard to find locally.

Find us on facebook at Modern Hippie Life Farm LLC , send us an email or even visit our website www.Modernhippielifefarm.com and send me a message and we would love to collaborate. We grow a lot of our produce out of hydroponic towers, so the weather is not restrictive on what we can do we have indoor climate control, gardening and greenhouse growing.
