Meet James Lott Jr CTACC CDC CNA CHOC DD M

We recently connected with James Lott Jr CTACC CDC CNA CHOC DD M and have shared our conversation below.

Hi James , so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

My whole life I have been in situations where I was the “only” one in the room and that made me want to succeed. Growing up I was tested Gifted and some of the classes I was in, I was the only one in the room even though Everyone looked like me. When I moved out as a young adult and lived in other cities and got jobs and were in relationships, I found myself many times the only black this or first person of color that. I’m naturally an extrovert and striver. There were times the “system” tried to knock me down and out but I learned that a few knocks build character but STAYING in the game builds a life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am A Certified Life Coach in Several lines of work and A Professional Organizer that specializes in getting people started and setting up systems. I am working to be more of a Keynote Speaker and Instructor. I recently spoke for NAPO SanDiego (NAPO.net) and the NAPSW (napsw.org). I also offer courses on various organizational and media topics.
My other life is a Multi Media artist and Producer. JLJ Media is my baby. I write/co write books (over 60), audio dramas (over 20), host over 20 shows, and write/perform/produce music (over 11 albums) for myself and others. What I offer is something for everyone. You come to JLJ media and you should be able to relate to something I’m doing.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Being Steadfast, driven, focused and having God on my side are the reasons I am here today! I am not a worrier and I don’t believe in failure. Everything is a win for you and your journey. I eliminated the word Perfect and any forms of it from my vocabulary. I think that it why I have so much product out in the world. I like to complete projects and put them out. I gained grace and compassion as a result. Also everything is marker in your life. Once you view it with that lens, you will understand and appreciate how far you come in your journey.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

I tell everyone that my Self employment chapter in my life started with a book by Julie Morgenstern called Organizing From the Inside Out. What I learned from her was invaluable, but the two things I took away were: This is a business AND I could be an organizer and in turn I could be anything I want.
