Meet Violeta Avila

We were lucky to catch up with Violeta Avila recently and have shared our conversation below.

Violeta , thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?

Taking risks is definitely a very hard thing to do. You will spend all day questioning yourself with, “What if….?” Well, what if you don’t even try? Yes, so many things can go wrong but what if everything goes amazing on your behalf? You won’t ever get anywhere in life if you don’t take that risk. About a year ago I finally decided to invest into a Permanent Makeup course. I had thought about doing this for YEARS prior to actually doing it. I was always afraid of the outcome. Drowning myself in all these thoughts. Thinking nothing but negative things. What if I don’t get enough clients? What if it’s too hard? What if it’s a scam? What if I lose all my money? Having all that in my mind was just hurting me and I was getting no where. I decided to let all that go and pray about it. It wasn’t a one day decision. However, I ended up taking that risk. I am now a Licensed Permanent Makeup Artist in Las Vegas doing something I absolutely love! Am I where I want to be at ? No. But, I’m happy. Ever since taking that first risk I have been able to think different and have taken other risks to better help me in my career. I am so happy I took that risk. One thing to always keep in mind is there will be times where you fail; but that’s not the end. You get right back up and try something else. Money comes and go’s. Life is short, just go for it! Definitely the best decision I ever made.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a Licensed Permanent Makeup Artist bases in Las Vegas. I help both men and women wake up in the morning with makeup done and ready to go. I save my clients both time and money. My profession includes tattooing waterproof, smudge-proof, brows, liner and lip blush. Leaving my clients ready every day for 2-5 years. My clients always leave the studio with very natural looking brows and lips! I had to invest and go through a 6 month hands on apprenticeship in which I had to also take and pass a couple tests with the state of Nevada. I always have specials going on with my services and try to make it as affordable as possible because everyone deserves to feel pretty even at their worst.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The 3 best skills that really impacted my journey were communication, initiative and leadership. All these each helped me in their own way. Communication is key when having your own business. Especially when having clients. You have to get out of that comfort zone and talk to your clients like they’re close friends of yours. This builds a foundation of trust and a personal connection with each person you come across. Being able take initiative is very beneficial to you and your business. You have to be able to be there for yourself because you won’t always have someone by you at all times. Take the initiative of genuinely paying attention when there is someone with you. Ask questions, be annoying. At the end of the day, it for you! Lastly, Leadership. Show up for yourself. You are your own boss! Learn to be a leader. Sole problems by yourself, trust yourself ! Do what you have to do to achieve your goals. Never underestimate the power you have. Take all of these skills into consideration and apply to in your own way. Never let someone dictate how you should achieve what you want in life. Only you know what you want, only you can be your own judge.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

My mentor, Paula. Owner of Wild Beauty Academy, where I took my apprenticeship. She has been an angel sent from God himself. Since the first day I met her she has been nothing but supportive. Whenever I am in doubt she is right there. There have been times where I have wanted to give up and who was there? Paula. Even though she’s always busy she will always make time for her students. She’s not just a teacher but a friend. To her, we are not competition. Paula wants us to be the best version of ourselves. I have learned so much from her, not just about permanent makeup but also about life. I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for her.
