Meet Ryan Mateling

We were lucky to catch up with Ryan Mateling recently and have shared our conversation below.

Ryan, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I think I was just born with it, I saw it in my Grandparents and I see it in my parents and the rest of my family.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am Chef and owner of Aiko Street Food , a food truck and catering brand .
We serve modern Japanese cuisine and street food in Northern Michigan & Detroit .
We serve staples like fried rice , Yakisoba & gyoza but we also have rotating seasonal dishes that showcase local produce and farm raised meat.
These rotating dishes push the boundaries from traditional food trucks and Asian cuisine.
Summer of 2024 we are now located at 619 e. Cayuga Street Bellaire Mi 49615

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

3 things that were most impactful to me on my journey was peers, mentors and learning new jobs .
Best advice is be open minded and always willing to learn/try new things/ skills. And find someone successful & passionate about what they do and learn from them.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I am looking for folks to collaborate or partner with. I’m looking for restaurants, chefs , restauranteurs, bars , clubs any establishment that is interested in working with me and my brand Aiko street food.
You can email if interested at [email protected] or go to www.aikostreetfood.com for more information
