We recently connected with Leonardo Durán Julián and have shared our conversation below.
Leonardo, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
From my experience and my work Creativity is a game of trial and error. There are ideas that travel recurrently through your mind and by just trying them, communicating them even just imagine them you can continue to create.
It’s not easy, but if there is at least an attempt to create, then there is an opportunity to learn. No matter if the outcome is the one intended or if it’s a fail, you win a lesson with every attempt made.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Photography is what I do, from product photography to fine art photography to social media and fashion, I create and express throughout the lens of a camera.
I’m a photographer of multiple visions, from expressing my visions to the visions of others translated by my camera, I work with product, models, stages and everything that crosses my mind.
For the past few years I’ve been learning and growing to make myself an amazing photographer. With the help of friends, family, teachers and mentors, I’ve grown to the point where I know I can stand out in the creative and commercial world of photography. I still have lots to learn and I’m eagered to continue my path of growth.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Taking every opportunity given to you while growing your career is indispensable, this would bring you an incredible amount of connections, lessons, friends, experiences and growth.
Don’t be afraid to go out of your comfort zone. It is challenging, but it helps to adapt and discover new capabilities we never knew we had.
Ask for help, asking for help when in doubt or when needed is a communication skill that I found was extremely helpful to grow my career and my personal life. There is no shame in asking, by reaching out we open ourselves to new perspectives.
Try new stuff, try new ideas, try techniques, try new paths, try everything that you can. Trying is just a route to learning and learning from your success and mistakes is the best advice that I could give someone to improve not only career wise but life wise.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Taking risks has been an essential part of the last year and has led me to a lot of knowledge and growth. It is difficult, but it’s what it’s needed to generate a change and to keep moving forward in my life.
