Hi Alisha , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I attribute my strong work ethic to my humble beginnings in Trinidad and Tobago. My mother is a native of Trinidad, and my father is from Guyana. He moved to Trinidad in the 70s, where he met my mother, and together they had me and my two sisters. Life in Trinidad wasn’t easy, but my mother worked as a seamstress, and my father was a carpenter.

We were given the opportunity to move to the United States through a family member’s sponsorship. Once we arrived, my parents began searching for work. My father naturally found employment in construction and later started his own construction and home-building business. He built two homes that we lived in throughout our childhood and another to this day.

My mother decided to stay home with the three of us and began watching children for neighbors and friends. Her reputation grew, and she eventually sought a license to provide child care. She started with six kids, then twelve, then thirty, and eventually cared for over a hundred children. Today, my sister owns three childcare centers that originated from my mother’s initiative.

Growing up with entrepreneurial parents meant we were always involved in the family business. I experienced firsthand the value of hard work and the financial and emotional rollercoaster that small business owners endure. I worked as a teacher, cook, and office manager in our family business. These experiences taught me the importance of bringing a dream to life through dedication and effort. This work ethic has been foundational to my success

At Swerve Dance Fitness Complex, our mission is to inspire confidence and help every individual discover their best self. We achieve this by offering a diverse range of classes designed to make fitness enjoyable and accessible for everyone.

Our standout programs include dynamic hip-hop and dance fitness sessions, alongside strength and conditioning classes. We’re thrilled to announce the addition of two new offerings: comprehensive dance instruction and personalized group training. These exciting new branches allow us to provide a versatile, multifunctional space that caters to a wide audience.

As we continue to grow and expand the Swerve brand citywide, we remain dedicated to fostering a fun, supportive environment where everyone can thrive. Join us on this journey and discover the joy of fitness at Swerve!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

3 keys to success-Work Ethic, Humility, and Finding Mentorship

My advice to any entrepreneur or fitnesspreneur is to not rush the process. Many instructors and entrepreneurs want to achieve success quickly but don’t take the necessary steps to get there. Learning from a mentor for 1-2 years can provide a strong foundation and open doors of opportunity to build your following and reputation.

Maintain a strong work ethic while keeping a healthy balance. Stay humble, recognizing that there’s always more to learn on this journey. Finding a mentor who can offer honest feedback is crucial for your growth and success.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I am seeking partners, including fitness instructors, dancers, chiropractors, therapists, personal trainers, and other wellness professionals, to form partnerships and grow our businesses together!
