Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Herbrinia Johnson-Streater. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Herbrinia, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I have come from a family of hardworking womans, but I must say my resilience comes from my inner strength that the Lord has given me from all the trials and tribulations I have overcome these past few years. I lost my husband 3 years ago, I was broken and left to take care of our three kids on my own, I went through many obstacles (from losing my career, being falsely arrest, family turning their back on me after all I ever did to help them, homeless, and more) and I didn’t have nowhere to turn. Many people had opinions on what I should be doing, how I should turn my pain into money, but I couldn’t find the strength. I didn’t have any fight to give out, but I had three kids that needed and dependent on me. I prayed and asked the Lord for strength and guidance; I continue to go through life and trust life was difficult, but I kept my faith. God needed to break me, isolate me, just to show me just how strong I really was and that I could do all thing with him by myside.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I love to decorate parties for family and friends which eventually grew into me starting my own business. My late husband and I started Be Fabulous Events back in 2017, which eventually grew into a family business, as we work alongside our kids and family members. We offer full event setups that include balloon displays, rentals, decadent desserts, designer cakes, floral arrangement, and much more. We enjoy leaving smiles on our client faces and giving them a fabulous memory to rave about for years to come, while doing what I love and working a full-time job I choose to walk away and enjoy life as an entrepreneur when tragedy hit. My world came crashing down when my husband passed away, I was devastated to say the least and my business struggle for years, but doing the pain I was able to find new adventures. While going through grievances, I found a sense of peace when I began making floral arrangements weekly to leave at his gravesite. From this experience, my interest in crafting beautiful floral arrangements for others flourished. This passion drove the creation of Be Fabulous Touch of Floral, where we specialize in a variety of floral expressions, from personalized bouquets to breathtaking centerpieces. About two years ago, I received a diploma in professional pastry arts from Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts. I progressed from baking amateur cakes to baking professional, designer cakes, pastries, and decorative desserts for your special moments and with this Be Fabulous Sweetique was born. We are thrilled to offer everything you need to create the most exceptional event.
Since losing my husband I have started an annual community event to give back to kids who have lost their fathers. Every Father’s Day we provide the kids with a brunch, gifts, and different coping skills to help them cope with their lost. In addition, each month we meet with the kids and enjoy different activities, mentoring, all while allowing the mothers a few hours to themselves. I just want to show the kids they aren’t alone we are all in this together and even though they may not have both parents their stories and journeys matters. Eventually I will like to turn this into a nonprofit organization.
As the business continue to expand I’m looking to add new services, perfecting my crafts, offering new products, teaching others and more!!!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities or skills you will have to possess is determination, consistency, and persistence. The advice I would offer to someone in their journey is to never give up no matter what obstacles may occur and to always invest in yourself, your skills, and your team.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, I would love to collaborate with other talented entrepreneurs like balloon artist, florist, event planner, wood makers, and much more. No matter how talented I may be, I think working with others to gain different concepts, so we can deliver a fabulous event is wonderful.
