We were lucky to catch up with Amber Moskowitz recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I believe finding one’s purpose is truly a journey of self-discovery. Personally, my son has been a great inspiration to me. Capturing his little memories and moments has definitely given me a sense of purpose. Additionally, discovering what I was good at and staying true to my authentic self has played a significant role in finding my purpose.
In your quest to find your purpose, I recommend starting with self-reflection. Ask yourself what truly fulfills you and brings you happiness. It’s also beneficial to explore your interests and uncover your values. Personal values such as honesty, integrity, gratitude, generosity, and flexibility can guide you in discovering your purpose. Furthermore, practicing positive emotions, like gratitude, can help you on this journey.
I have to always remember finding my purpose is a continuous process that involves exploring new opportunities and staying true to myself.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am always so thankful for the opportunity to share a bit about what I do.
As a photographer specializing in candid lifestyle photography, my goal is to tell stories through my images. I believe that every photograph should capture a moment in time, bringing movement and life to the scene. The most exciting part of being a photographer for me is the ability to freeze time and create memories that will be cherished by families for generations to come.
My brand represents who I am—passionate, creative, and dedicated to capturing genuine moments. I strive for my work to resonate with my clients and reflect the beauty of everyday life.
Looking ahead, I am thrilled to announce that I will be focusing more on creating content days and hosting model calls. Additionally, I am in the process of expanding to a larger natural light studio, which will allow me to enhance the quality of my work and provide an even better experience for my clients.
I look forward to where my journey continues to take me in this business.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey, I can identify three key qualities that have significantly impacted my growth:
1. Authenticity: Being true to yourself is paramount. Embrace your unique voice and style, as this will help you stand out in a crowded space.
2. Sympathy and Grace: It’s essential to give yourself grace during your journey. Perfection is an illusion, and understanding that progress is a process will allow you to enjoy the ride rather than focus solely on the end goal.
3. Creativity and Style: Honing your creative style is crucial. Explore different avenues, and don’t shy away from trying new things. Your creativity is what will make your work distinctive.
In terms of skills, I would emphasize the importance of:
Lighting and Depth of Field: Understanding these technical aspects can dramatically enhance the quality of your work.
Self-Promotion: Learning how to effectively market yourself is vital in today’s competitive landscape. This includes website design and advertising.
Familiarity with Your Equipment: You don’t need the most expensive gear to create great art. Invest time in learning your camera and its features.
For those early in their journey, my advice would be:
Find a Mentor: Having someone to guide you can provide invaluable insights.
Take Classes: Continual learning will help you improve your skills.
Invest in Yourself: Make time for personal development, whether through reading, watching tutorials, or practicing your craft.
Ask Questions: Don’t hesitate to seek advice and clarification when needed.
Practice: Regular practice is key to mastering any skill.
Encourage Creativity: Engage in free sessions that allow your creativity to flourish.
Be Patient: Remember that mastery takes time; it’s not a skill you will understand overnight.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
One of the most impactful lessons my parents imparted was the importance of resourcefulness. They taught me that success is not handed to us; instead, we must earn it through hard work and determination. From an early age, I learned that things do not come easy, and the path to achieving our goals often requires perseverance.
Furthermore, my parents instilled in me the values of kindness and pursuing my dreams. They emphasized that while the journey may be challenging, it is essential to remain compassionate and to strive for what we truly want in life.
I am grateful for the invaluable lessons they provided, which continue to guide me each day.
