We recently connected with Francine Huang and have shared our conversation below.
Francine, so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
Honestly, it’s not always easy dealing with haters and nay-sayers, but at Nerdy Cooks, we stay focused on our “why.” We’re all about teaching kids the science behind cooking and sparking their curiosity. That mission keeps us going.
Being true to ourselves is also key. We know what we’re doing matters, and we see the joy and excitement it brings to the kids. So even when people doubt us, we stick to our values and keep pushing forward. It’s all about remembering the positive impact we’re making and staying passionate about our work.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
At NERDY Cooks, we’re all about teaching kids the science behind food. NERDY Cooks is more than just a catchy name—it’s an acronym that encapsulates our core belief: Nourishing Exploration and Reigniting Discovery in Youth. This philosophy is at the heart of why we embarked on this business journey.
What makes NERDY Cooks so special is how we view cooking as a science lab. Our program is designed to be a food science enrichment experience, where children dive into hands-on projects, playing with ingredients to explore their flavors and potential. Our mission is simple: to infuse fun into food and science through interactive experiments and recipes.
The most exciting part of what we do is seeing kids’ eyes light up when they discover something new. We aim to get kids curious and encourage them to think beyond the ordinary. We believe that food is a canvas where unconventional combinations can yield surprising and delightful results. From French fries and ice cream to apple cheddar cheese pie and even peanut butter and bacon, NERDY Cooks celebrates the magic of exploring food with an open mind and adventurous spirit.
We’re constantly evolving and have some exciting things in the pipeline. We’re launching new classes, workshops, and expanding our reach to more communities!
We’d love for folks to know that at NERDY Cooks, it’s all about sparking discovery and joy through food science. We’re here to make learning fun, tasty, and a little bit nerdy!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I’d say the three qualities or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in our journey with NERDY Cooks were our deep nutrition knowledge, our experience working in communities in need, and our passion for teaching kids.
Our nutrition knowledge gave us the foundation to spark kids’ curiosity about ingredients and how they work together. Working in communities in need taught us the importance of making our programs accessible and relevant to diverse groups of kids. And our passion for teaching has driven us to create interactive and exciting learning experiences that spark curiosity and joy.
For anyone early in their journey, my best advice is to remember that there’s no such thing as failure—there’s only failure in not trying. Every setback is just a stepping stone to something new. When one door closes, another opens, so keep pushing forward, stay curious, and always be ready to learn and adapt.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Absolutely, we’re always looking for folks to partner or collaborate with at NERDY Cooks! We’re particularly interested in connecting with educators, certified teachers, campuses, and schools who share our passion for teaching kids about the science of food.
We believe that collaboration can bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to our programs, helping us make an even bigger impact. If you’re passionate about inspiring curiosity and joy in children through food and science, we’d love to hear from you.
