We recently connected with Diego De Alba and have shared our conversation below.
Diego , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Sometimes we rely on our parents, friends, or society to build our confidence based on their opinions, I remember when I started saying that I’m good at something, people would look at me like a cocky arrogant person, I even got someone telling me that I should let people say that I’m good and not me, but that’s crazy to think, because if I do that I’m letting others to build my confidence.
Since I was a kid I have always been quite lonely, not too many friends, I knew I was a good kid but I never understood why, maybe because I never followed what others were doing to feel accepted, at the time was thought. Still, it helped me to build a great connection with myself, I was doing things to make me happy and not others, now I see that as a superpower because I know that I am my biggest critic and support.
In a nutshell, I would say that my confidence and self-esteem have come from building a great relationship with myself and loving myself for who I am.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Sure, here’s a revised version of your text:

I was born in Fresno, California, and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico. I’ve always liked to try different things and have always been into sports. I used to play soccer and was always an active kid. Honestly, I didn’t know what I wanted to be. My dad wanted me to be an architect, but since I failed the test, I knew that wasn’t for me.
I spent some time in Canada, and I realized that I had something special in me. It was a weird feeling, like a fire inside my chest telling me that I was going to do great things, but I didn’t know what.
When I came back from Canada, I didn’t have a regular job anymore, and that’s when I found e-commerce. I started doing dropshipping for Mexico, selling phone cases. While running ads, I realized that content is king, whether video or photos. That’s when I started making videos because I needed them to run ads.
And that’s when I started doing YouTube. I always thought that being a YouTuber was an amazing career because you could do what you love from anywhere in the world. I started with the dream of becoming a YouTuber, but I realized that in Mexico, there was not a lot of support for it. So, I decided to move to the United States to pursue my dream. While making videos, I offered to shoot a wedding. At the wedding, I met someone who offered me to be a photographer at a concert. That was super cool because I was getting into something exciting, which was music. The thing is, I didn’t know how to take photos. I knew how to make videos, so with the money they would pay me, I hired a photographer friend of mine to shoot the photos, and I would do the video for free. I always have this mindset of over-delivering because it’s an investment for the future. From there, I just started shooting every single concert, moved to Bakersfield, California, where I’m at right now, and kept improving every single time. I always have this mindset that I have to do more than my competition. My only competition is really myself, and this mindset has helped me move forward in the creative space.
To be honest, I stopped doing YouTube because I felt that I wasn’t putting in 100%, and I didn’t have the full experience to talk about it and share my knowledge. But now, after years of doing this, I’m back on track to share all the knowledge I have to help future creators because every time I teach something, I feel like I’m teaching my younger self, Diego, who was just starting.
Being a creator, whether a videographer, photographer, or graphic designer, is a tough career because there’s nothing set that measures how much to charge or how good you are. That’s something that has been on my mind for a long time because I don’t want to chase the next project just to make a living. That’s when I started shifting my mindset into more of a business perspective.
That’s when I decided to start an agency with my cousin, where I’m the creative director. We focus on music, creating content for tours, running advertisements for concerts, and consulting on strategies for businesses in the music industry, as well as artists.
As a filmmaker, I’ve been working on collaborating with brands that align with my values, morals, and where I want to be in my life by design. I want to work on projects where I’m having fun and that align with who I am, not just doing it for the money. I believe that having an impact in this world is something money can’t buy.
Here, I can really share my experience and still create videos and photos with intention that will have exposure and impact in this world. On the business side and from a personal brand perspective, my goal is to impact more Hispanics, Latinos, and Spanish-speaking creators to believe in themselves and get opportunities. I’m all about sharing my knowledge. I believe that knowledge is meant to be shared, and that’s what I share on my personal pages as well as through passion projects.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Confidence, not being afraid to try, and always doing the right thing.
I believe that having confidence in yourself is key because it allows you to try new things and gain valuable experience. If you take risks, you don’t lose—you learn.
Taking risks without fear is essential. When you take risks, even if you don’t succeed immediately, you gain knowledge and experience that will benefit you in the long run. The journey itself is valuable.
Always doing the right thing is crucial. You may not see the benefits in the short term, but being known for always doing the right thing will build a legacy that rewards you over the long term. Integrity and ethical behavior create trust and respect, which are invaluable assets in any journey.
For those early in their journey, focus on building your confidence by stepping out of your comfort zone. Embrace challenges and view failures as learning opportunities. Develop a strong moral compass and stay true to your principles. These qualities will guide you toward long-term success and fulfillment.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

### Question: What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
### Answer:
Feeling overwhelmed is something that is going to happen in your career, and it is normal. I think that acknowledging when you are overwhelmed is a skill you have to develop, and putting yourself first is key. Take some time off, distract yourself, and completely forget the thing that is making you overwhelmed. Trust that God has a plan for you, and believe it or not, everything is always going to be fine.
Money was my nemesis; I would get extremely overwhelmed when I was spending money. The reason is rooted in how I grew up in scarcity. We are wired in certain ways based on our past experiences, but that does not mean we can’t change. We have to be okay with the fact that we were wired like that, and then create an action plan to feed ourselves and envision the way we want to live now. Since I started doing that and focusing on how to generate more instead of worrying about scarcity, I have become much more effective.
I used to be the kind of person who would get overwhelmed very often and experience a lot of anxiety, thinking that if I didn’t finish a project on time, the client would get mad at me, even when I wasn’t feeling creative. That was the worst for me.
Take care of yourself first so you can be better for others (we tend to put other people first). Focus on the solution, not the problem. It is easy to look at the negative, but try to find the positive.
