We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful JoAnna Lowe. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with JoAnna below.
Hi JoAnna, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from my mother. I’ve been blessed to watch my mother play the hand she was dealt over and over and not lose. My mother was born to alcoholic parents that truly loved her and did the best they could given their own circumstance. She became pregnant at the age of 13 and gave birth at age 14. She had 8 more children and raised them all as a single parent. She dropped out of school in the 8th grade because she had to provide for her family. We were extremely poor but loved tremendously. My mom got up everyday and went to work 2 or 3 jobs a day. She never quit doing what was needed to provide for us. We never starved and she sent us to school clean and ready to learn.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a multifaceted entrepreneur in the field of real estate. I own several longterm rental properties as well as a few short term rentals. I flip houses to resale with my company Remnant Real Estate Solutions. I coach other budding and experienced real estate investors, I speak nationally on real estate and I own a brokerage, Yellow Door Agency.
What I love about my role in the real estate space is that I can directly help to grow the wealth of my clients, buyers, private lenders, and sellers. What most other people think is most special is my ability to see something in it’s worst condition and create/recreate a structurally sound and beautiful home for a buyer or tenant.
In 2012, I started investing in real estate with my husband (at the time). In 2019, I lost my company in a divorce from that same husband/business. I had to start all over and build a new company from the ground up on my own. I named that company Remnant Real Estate Solutions because I believed that, like Noah, I would be the remnant of that divorce that God would bless and multiply. And He has done exceedingly more than I could imagine.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My faith in God, resilience learned from my mother, and ability to properly set and achieve goals have been the most impactful skills along my journey.
My advice to anyone embarking on an entrepreneurial journey is to create a list of all of your best qualities and skills. Determine how these qualities or skills can be used to create the success you are desiring. Create a strategic plan to use these skills to propel you to the level of success you desire.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my mother did for me was give me the space to figure things out for myself. Because she didn’t hover over me or give me the tools for success I believe that led me to discover those tools within. I’m much more creative, responsible, and insightful because of this.
