Meet Andrew Goldstein

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Andrew Goldstein. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Andrew, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I don’t know that you ever really overcome it you just have more confidence. As a new business I don’t like saying, “no,” to anything. Say yes and figure out how to execute it later.

I will say that it’s very helpful to know that if you’re feeling a certain way about something, there is a 100% chance that someone else is feeling the same way. Between this and being confident in what you know and can do is what I found to be the most helpful in overcoming imposter syndrome in the beginning.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a golf fitness/medical professional. I help my clients play better and more enjoyable golf. From juniors, to professionals, and amateurs I create fitness and recovery routines based on each individuals specific needs.

I have such a love for the game of golf and in an ideal world would have been skilled enough to be a pro, competing on tour. However, since that isn’t my reality, this is the way I can participate within the golf world. I truly enjoy helping people enjoy this incredible game more. The trickle-down impact is so great. As a golfer, the way we play can impact our personal lives so much (whether that is healthy or not is another conversation). So when we have clients telling us how much better their game is, I know that we are having an impact beyond the golf course. Their happiness around all other aspects of their life rises as well.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1) knowledge of a specific area. For me finding TPI (Titlesit Performance Institute) was incredibly helpful in being able to organize what I already knew from my chiropractic studies. Their way of diagnosing specific body dysfunctions and what the impact would be on the golf swing made it very easy to properly identify what areas needed to be worked on in order to improve.

2) hospitality mindset. You can be the greatest at anything but if you can’t find a way to connect with people then that skill/knowledge goes unseen. Being able to make my clients feel important, special, and seen is really why I think they come back. Sure, the product has to be there but if you can make someone feel emotionally connected to you, or the brand, you’ll win them over and create loyal customers.

3) maximum effort. It require no skill or additional training to do the best job you can.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

It’s so easy to let the spiral of negativity take over and drown you. There are always a million reasons why something WON’T work. That doesn’t mean there isn’t at least one way it WILL work. Recognizing when you are starting to slip down that negative thought spiral, acknowledging it is the first thing I do. I remind myself that nothing worth having comes easy and I try to get to a relaxing activity to redirect my mind (golf, exercise, playing with my kids, etc.).

I think the practice of meditation is a great way to learn this skill. The idea of meditation is not only to clear your mind but learn how to refocus when it’s wondered off. I read somewhere that the average person has about 80,000 thoughts per day. It’s unfair to think all of those will be productive and that’s ok! The practice of meditation will help you learn how to refocus your mind on what you want. In this case, something more positive that helps you achieve your goals.
