We recently connected with Timothy Carter and have shared our conversation below.
Timothy, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
I am a PK (a preacher’s kid) and I grew up in San Diego, Ca watching my father feed and house the homeless and help rehabilitate people that were addicted to drugs and alcohol through his non profit organization called New Start In Life, Inc.
I remember watching him help countless people through out the years and seeing how their lives were transformed and they literally got a new start in life, a second chance to have a very productive life in society once again. My father has always been my hero from a kid even until now, and I remembering watching the compassion he had for his fellow man and I started to pattern myself after him. I wanted to help people just like he did and I wanted to see their lives transformed. So the more I began to work in the community helping people in need, the more my heart went out to those who needed food, clothes, housing. So, I credit both my heavenly father and my earthly father for the generosity and compassion that I have in my heart for people.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My organization provides food for over 5,000 people per month who are food insecure. We also provide, clothes, diapers, furniture, toys for Christmas and Spiritual Counseling to anyone who needs it. Helping people in and around my community is my passion. Life can be cruel, and sometimes things happen beyond our control and we need that helping hand when when fall on hard times and it seems like there is one there to help us. I love seeing the look on people’s face when we show up to help them in their time of need, our services are absolutely free and we try and make sure we help everyone that needs our assistance. Right now, my organization is help families in the city of Valley View, TX that were affected by a tornadoes that hit that town on May 25, 2024 and left so many people without homes, cars, food, clothes,, etc. We are there every Monday delivering food, clothes, diapers, and other supplies to families that are still recovering from this disaster.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Prayer, Compassion, and Determination were the 3 qualities, that has helped me be impactful in my journey.
My advice to anyone who has started their journey is , find out what your passion is, don’t just settle for anything. Once you find out what your passion is go after it whole heartedly. Take time to pray every day, seek counsel from the man above, he will never steer you wrong, also don’t allow outside voices or negativity to put your fire out on what you are passionate about, stay focused, be determined to keep moving forward regardless of the obstacles. Remember winners never quit and quitter never win. Go after your dream with everything you got and watch you walk in your winning season!
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me, was teach me how to pray and trust God. I know in today’s society most people don’t want to hear about prayer and God, but I am a witness that prayer works and that God is alive and he will help in your most difficult of times. There where many days when resources were low and I didn’t know what to do, I had so many people depending on me and my organization to help them. When I took the time to pray and seek the face of God, I watched him many times work thing out over night for me while I was sleeping. So, I am so grateful that my parents not only instilled the importance of prayer and having a relationship with God, but they lived the life before me. I love them so much for that. It’s has helped so many times down through the years.
