Meet Jeremiah Butout

We were lucky to catch up with Jeremiah Butout recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeremiah , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

During my childhood, our family didn’t have a strong financial background. After my parents divorced, my mother played a crucial role in shaping my work ethic. I saw her working three jobs, which required my siblings and me to help with household chores. Being introduced to tasks and responsibilities at a young age shaped my work ethic today. I learned early on that if you face a problem, hard work can help you overcome it. Observing and participating in my mother’s efforts taught me to strive to be the best person I can be. I live by a work ethic motto: “If I wouldn’t do it to my mother, I would never do it to someone else.” This has taught me to “take the hi road” in life.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Spicy Señorita Salsa is more than just a salsa brand; it’s a heartfelt homage to our late mother. She laid the foundation for our authentic fresh taste by her love for entertaining, cooking, and enjoying life’s pleasures such as sipping margaritas on the beaches of Mexico. Our Salsa recipe (born in our mother’s kitchen) reflects her discerning taste and passion for fresh, quality ingredients.

Over the years, we’ve refined and perfected our unique blend, creating a product that embodies the essence of her culinary spirit. Even though our mother is no longer with us, her influence continues to shape Spicy Señorita Salsa. Every jar we produce is a tribute to her memory, a continuation of the warmth and joy she brought to gatherings. We’re confident that she would take pride in what our company has become. So, when you enjoy a jar of Spicy Señorita Salsa, you’re not just savoring a delicious blend of favors; you’re partaking in a legacy of love, family, and the celebration of life inspired by our mother indomitable spirit. Here’s to honoring her with every jar and sharing the joy she so loved to create.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

We have been making and selling a truly homemade salsa to friends and family for years. Our close connections constantly urged us to bring our salsa to the market, so we decided to move to certified manufacturing. I was fortunate enough to be referred to a manufacturing facility in Arizona, where the owner has been producing his own blend for 35 years. This gentleman’s extensive knowledge and advice on pitfalls to avoid were invaluable. Spicy Senorita Salsa wouldn’t be here today without his guidance.

Three skills essential for making any company prosperous:

Bringing our flavor to the market – we have been utilizing trade shows and farmers’ markets.
Ensuring our sales team knows and can effectively convey our message to consumers.
Navigating permits, licenses, insurance, and other back-office tasks. You need a solid foundation to launch and operate from, including finding the lowest production costs while maintaining quality.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

Our two biggest obstacles are getting our salsa taste to market and producing a high-quality product at an affordable price.

To introduce consumers to our salsa, we attend and sell at farmers’ markets and trade shows. At these events, we offer free samples of our four blends. Often, hesitant consumers become enthusiastic buyers after tasting our salsa, purchasing multiple jars.

Producing a quality product at a fair price has been challenging due to recent inflation. Our produce costs have increased by over 75% in three years. One strategy we have implemented is offering discounts for larger orders. This approach boosts sales, leading to larger production runs and enabling us to continue passing on savings to our customers.
