We were lucky to catch up with Anthony Angulo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Anthony , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
It was quite the journey filled with challenges and self-discovery. I strengthened my self-esteem and confidence by immersing myself in my passions and pursuing my desired calling to fulfill what brings me joy.
As a Performance Trainer, I bring fitness and performance training for everyone to help them reach their goals through exercise. It is a privilege to work with youth to professional athletes, adults with their fitness, and adaptive athletes in person or virtually. The way I continue to enhance my skills, I created a variety of powerful strategies that I follow,
Visualize ambitious goals and break them down into achievable tasks. This help me sustain my motivation with unwavering perseverance and discipline. I built plans to execute for my dreams to become a reality.
Another way is I would seek wisdom from mentors. This would help me feed my mind with conversations, books, and stories to nurture a lifelong quest for knowledge. I learn that you have to be a student in life to continue growing!
Throughout this thrilling adventure, I honed my abilities, boosted my confidence, and shared knowledge with like-minded individuals. The journey continues, brimming with opportunities and undiscovered wonders.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I was a life long athlete to now as a performance trainer at APEC Fort Worth. This transition from an athlete to a performance trainer is a profound journey that involves shifting from my personal achievement to fostering the growth and success of others. It is rewarding, as I get to share my experiences and guide them to hone in their skills, inspire new generations, and continue their passion for the sport in a different capacity. It is exciting to witness the athletes achieve their accomplishments!
However, my vision became bigger as I want everyone to have this similar experience. APEC Fort Worth fosters a system and environment to get that experience! Our team with different athletic and coaching backgrounds to help everyone in the DFW metroplex. We been fortunate to have the trust of the public to help them with their performance, fitness, and wellness goals.
Here is a few of my personal projects such as coaching with athletes of all levels and group/ personal training adults towards their fitness goals. Also, building a virtual training and wellness for a corporate wellness program out in New Orleans. I wanted to show that anyone and anywhere can get a quality training program! Last but not least volunteering to coach a group of adaptive amputee athletes every week through the Adaptive Foundation has been fulfilling! It is admirable seeing these athletes come in each week to join for a workout session. Soon, we will be hosting a performance mobility clinic in September for adaptive amputee athlete for everyone to witness the experience.
Ultimately, my vision was to help bring movement through community. I believe movement is a form of medicine which through physical activity can help improve overall physical and mental health. I am just fortunate to be a part of this team, process, and vision.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting back on everything to get where I am at today. I believe these are my top three most important skills and qualities to have. Patience allowed me to seek opportunities and grow within the process. I keen on the statement, “Trust the process” as I don’t believe there is an overnight success but there is opportunities to shine your success.
Another skill is communication as this was a vital skill for me to learn. This was the key to success for me as it help me initiate the ideas to reality. Communication helped me with other areas such as willing to be uncomfortable and thrive through those challenges. Becoming an effective communicator help me understand and empathize others in order to reach the goal!
But if I had to choose one skill to develop, it would to be adaptable. Things are not going to go your way. You can plan and fail multiple times, heck, there are times where everything that could go wrong goes wrong. However, this help me understand to take each experience as a learning moment and to build off of it. One bad moment doesn’t make it a bad day or make you bad. In fact, it helps builds your resiliency and to face any challenge. Being adaptable to the moment help me create standards, learn from my mistakes, and build stronger systems through those trials. I will finish off with a quote by Ben Franklin, “Change is the only constant in life. Ones ability to adapt to those changes will determine your success in life.”.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
I was given a book by one of my mentors, “The Go-Giver: A Little Story About a Powerful Business Idea” by Bob Burg and John D. Mann. It is a short story about a young man needing to meet his quota and finds a business mogul as a mentor. The young man had a narrow perspective of success while his mentor guides to open his scope by teaching him the “The Five Laws of Stratospheric Success,”.
What I took away from this book is that instead of focusing on the self-centered ambition but rather to focus on contributing the well-being of others. This created a culture of generosity, importance of giving has more value than receiving in payments and building relationships based on trust and authenticity. This has helped me both personally and professionally by giving and serving others, which lead to greater fulfillment and prosperity.
