Meet Raw Talent

We were lucky to catch up with Raw Talent recently and have shared our conversation below.

Raw, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from not having a traditional childhood and always being the underdog.  Since I was a little kid growing up with my brother and cousins, I’ve always walked around with a chip on my shoulder.  With no mom or dad in the picture, I was raised by my grandma and have always felt I’ve had to work twice as hard as everyone else for things.  I don’t use it as an excuse, but I definitely feel that I have a lot to prove.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m focused on many different opportunities, but In order to accomplish those big things it’s been a process taking small steps.  My areas of focus now are: branding my music/promotion, working with my label/and other artists, starting my own clothing line, and wanting to start a dog business, but this is just the beginning of it all.  I’m a pretty talented guy with big goals I set for myself.

Right now I’m currently working on getting the 540 Showcase together which is taking place in my hometown in the state of Virginia.  I coordinate all of the artists together and schedule the performances.

In the area I’m from we don’t get to do a lot of music collaborations or concerts because we are a small town.  Not a lot of light is shone on us, so it’s up to us to start making noise!  As far as my music, I’m going to be dropping a few projects here soon.  I’ve just been so focused on the backside of it, learning the business side, I haven’t really been in the studio and I know it’s been bugging my fans because it’s bothering me!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think the most important qualities / skills to have are Charm, No Fear, and Authenticity.

As far as charm I can’t really tell you how to get that, you either have it or you don’t.  However, I do think that kindness is included in that…  Be friendly and just talk with people.

Having no fear you just have to learn to be a risk taker.  Having no fear also comes with going through trials and tribulations and just not giving up;  you can’t quit as it takes being direct and having self discipline.

Authenticity – Just be you and don’t be fake.  Know what your strengths and weaknesses are and focus on those, it never works to try and imitate anyone.  As cliche as it sounds,  we were born to stand out from everyone for a reason, God made you to be you.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Just becoming a better me and focusing on me and only me.  I made a huge life change by moving to LA from Virginia to pursue my dream of music.  Along the road this past year I’ve had to really focus on what is important in life and what is going to be best for my future.  If you happen to be in my circle or close group of friends then of course you’re good and have nothing to worry about once I get it.

Right now I’m going all in trying to set the best example for all my homies back home by showing everyone you can overcome adversity and also show people you can change from negative to positive.  Of course it’s tough and I have my good days along with the bad ones. I just try to rise above it all because I know in the end my struggle will be beautiful and in the end YOU MUST LEARN TO TRUST IN YOUR PROCESS !
