Meet Lisa Phillips

We were lucky to catch up with Lisa Phillips recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

My purpose has shifted over the last few years. The foundation has always been helping other to become successful in the Arts and Entertainment Business but recently through deep and validating connections with others who have gone through similar abuse on their journey to success, I found my deeper purpose. I realized to be of tru service to others I needed to be brave and bold, to start speaking out, and to support others who were still silenced and possibly still in the throes of abuse. I wanted to be their voice and to let others know that we, the survivor sisters, are here for them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Because of this deep need many artists have to feel like we are supported and part of a community that “gets us.” That gets our unwavering ambition to live our dreams no matter what, yet we are aware we are objectified on our journey to create the art we desire. We collectively try to understand how to navigate Hollywood while staying out of harms way and mentally sound. I created a podcast community called FROM NOW ON, released on Spotify in September 2024. It is a safe haven for survivors to share their stories of sexual abuse and trauma, particularly within the entertainment industry. We educate and empower listeners about red flags, coercive control, grooming, and power dynamics.
I am now leading my true and meaningful purpose driven life, and from now on, I will always stand up for my truth and support others who have experienced the same.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, the three most impactful qualities in my journey were resilience, strength, and finding my voice. Each played a crucial role in helping me overcome challenges and advocate for myself and others.

Resilience was essential in facing and recovering from setbacks. The ability to bounce back after difficult experiences allowed me to keep moving forward, even when times were tough. For those early in their journey, developing resilience can start with small steps: practice self-care, maintain a positive outlook, and seek out supportive relationships. Remember, resilience is like a muscle – the more you use it, the stronger it gets.

Strength was vital in enduring the emotional and mental strain of my experiences. It gave me the power to stand firm in my truth and push through moments of doubt and fear. To build strength, focus on both your physical and mental well-being. Engage in activities that challenge you and help build confidence, such as exercise, mindfulness, and setting achievable goals. Surround yourself with positive influences that encourage and uplift you.

Finding your voice was perhaps the most transformative aspect of my journey. Speaking out about my experiences not only helped me heal but also empowered others who were in similar situations. For those just starting out, it’s important to understand that finding your voice doesn’t happen overnight. Start by journaling your thoughts and feelings, sharing your story with a trusted friend, or joining support groups where you can connect with others who understand your experiences. As you grow more comfortable, consider platforms like social media, blogs, or podcasts to amplify your message and advocate for change.

My advice for anyone early in their journey is to be patient with yourself and embrace these qualities. Develop resilience by taking care of yourself and building a supportive network. Cultivate strength by challenging yourself and focusing on your well-being. And, most importantly, find and use your voice to share your story and inspire others. Your journey is unique, and your voice matters.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I am seeking survivors of sexual assault, coercion, and trauma within the entertainment industry to join me for deep, meaningful conversations. Our focus is not on reliving your trauma, but on using your experiences to educate and empower others on their healing journeys. Together, we can provide invaluable insights, support, and inspiration to those who need it most. Let’s transform our pain into a powerful force for change and healing.
