We recently connected with Paul Blake and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Paul, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I was not always a confident person, but over the years developed confidence by how to place value on what I do. Whenever I step into a room, I remind myself I am because I have something important to say to the people who ask me to show up. I realize before I can ask people to listen to me I must first feel worthy of being there. I try not to focus too much on the validation of other people because it is a not a guarantee. My story is helpful to someone and so I step out boldly with this in mind. Every time i fall into self-doubt I remember the words of Marianne Williamson “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.” I can only speak to others of greatness if I recognize the greatness in me.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m thrilled to share a bit about my journey and the work I do. As an author and church leader, my passion lies in fostering nurturing and supportive church communities. Through my books and teachings, I aim to empower pastors, church leaders, and congregants to build environments where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
The most exciting part of my work is witnessing the transformation that occurs when people come together in faith, compassion, and mutual support. It’s incredibly rewarding to see communities grow stronger, more resilient, and more spiritually vibrant through intentional care and encouragement.
One of the most special aspects of my approach is the emphasis on biblical principles, which serve as the foundation for all my teachings and writings. By staying grounded in Scripture, I strive to provide timeless and practical guidance that can be applied in everyday church life.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Empathy
2. Biblical knowledge and theological understanding
3. Leadership and communication skills
Stay Curious and Open-Minded: Always be willing to learn and grow. The landscape of faith and community building is constantly evolving, and staying open to new ideas will help you adapt and thrive.
Build a Support Network: Surround yourself with mentors, peers, and colleagues who can provide support, guidance, and constructive feedback. A strong network can help you navigate challenges and celebrate successes.
Be Patient and Persistent: Developing these qualities and skills takes time. Be patient with yourself and persistent in your efforts. Growth often comes through overcoming obstacles, so embrace challenges as opportunities to learn and improve.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is someone who is deeply committed to fostering a caring and supportive church community. They often hold roles such as pastors, church leaders, or active members of their congregation, and they are motivated by a strong desire to see their church thrive both spiritually and socially.
