Meet Giselle López

We recently connected with Giselle López and have shared our conversation below.

Giselle , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I get my resilience from my loved ones, my family, my grandmother, my mother, they have all taught me to stay strong because the universe will always have your back, my friends and chosen family who show me to never give up and to chase our dreams no matter how crazy they are, the crazier the better. My resilience comes from my hometown, the border that is constantly seen as a threat, as a violent area, growing up in a border made me resilient early in life, and for that I will always be grateful and blessed to come from a land of strong, resilient individuals.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Hello! My name is Giselle Lopez also known as DJ jelly Bebe, I am from San ysidro/ Tijuana, now based in Los Angeles. I have been djing and throwing events since 2018. My friends and I started our collective / underground party in Los Angeles called DT33 (discoteka33) where we bring different artists from all over the world to explore new sounds, bring a different energy to the underground and highlight Latin artists from Mexico, Colombia, Chile and more. I’m slowly moving towards putting out my own music, my friend and I worked on a few tracks recently that will be putting out soon and I can’t wait! I am also a model and diving into the stylist world, I’ve recently worked in music videos which I’m excited to do a lot more of, as well as curating the sounds for a runway show in New York happening next month which I’m excited about!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think believing in yourself is a huge part of growth and becoming the person you dreamt of being one day, I would always envision myself doing the things I am doing now, I was so inspired by strong talented women around me, seeing them do things like DJ and be their own boss made me think “wow I can do that too.” My advice to people early in their journey is be patient and have faith in yourself, some people think it’s so easy to get to where you’re at and they don’t understand the tears, the sweat, and suffering that one goes through until you finally reach that point months or years later. You really have to believe in yourself and envision that lifestyle you see yourself living way before you even get there, and of course always being grateful, for the opportunities life throws at you as well as the people that say your names in rooms you aren’t in, I wouldn’t be where I’m at now if it wasn’t for the support and love of my loved ones. I owe them everything and I’m forever blessed to be surrounded by so much love.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

My mother! I’m so thankful to have had such an understanding mom growing up, I didn’t realize how much it mattered to have your mom show up and to believe in you no matter how crazy you sounded, until I was older and I’d end up in conversations with people about how their mothers weren’t supportive or there for them, and I thought “wow, my mom was always there for me even when I’d want her to leave me alone, she never did.” I’m her weirdest daughter and probably the one that gave her the hardest time as a teenager, yet she always saw the good in me, she always tried to understand me as well as my crazy fashion choices, she’s taught me so much and she says I have taught her so much as well, I’m thankful for her everyday and I wouldn’t be who I am without that strong woman cheering me on my whole life, I love her
