We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Becca Young. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Becca below.
Becca, so great to have you on the platform and excited to have you share your wisdom with our community today. Communication skills often play a powerful role in our ability to be effective and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your communication skills.
Developing my ability to communicate effectively has been a journey rooted in both personal and professional experiences. As the founder of The Sultry Bar, I’ve always believed that communication is the cornerstone of a successful client relationship. My background in healthcare management was a strong reference point of experience for me. When in a strong leadership role communication is essential to best advocate for patients and your staff. Effective communication ensures that patients feel that their needs are being met especially in the most vulnerable states. It’s also a nonnegotiable aspect of cultivating a team that feels supported and appreciated.
When I transitioned into the beauty industry, I brought those skills with me, adapting them to suit the intimate and personal nature of brow services. During my consultations, I focus on creating a space where clients feel comfortable sharing their desires and concerns. I strive to listen attentively, providing detailed explanations and education about the process and what to expect during the appointment and the healing journey.
This approach not only builds trust but also empowers my clients to make informed decisions about their desired results. The feedback I receive confirms the effectiveness of this communication style, as clients frequently express appreciation for the thoroughness and clarity of my consultations. These interactions have reinforced the importance of empathy and understanding, which continue to be integral to my practice.
Ultimately, the relationships I build with my clients are a testament to the power of open, honest, and compassionate communication, driving me to continually refine my skills and enhance the client experience.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m thrilled to share my journey and the heart of my brand, The Sultry Bar, with you. As a master artist specializing in natural brow results, I offer luxurious services like Powder Brows and Hybrid Combo Brows, with a focus on enhancing each client’s natural features.
What sets The Sultry Bar apart is our commitment to creating a transformative experience. Every service begins with an extensive consultation where we dive into your brow desires and address any concerns. This personalized approach ensures that clients feel informed and confident about the process and what to expect, both during the appointment and the healing phase.
The most exciting part of my work is witnessing the transformation in my clients—not just in their appearance but in their confidence. There’s an indescribable joy in seeing someone look in the mirror and feel truly empowered. My clients often tell me how much they value the education and care I provide, which reinforces my dedication to quality and authenticity.
At The Sultry Bar, my goal is not just to offer services but to cultivate a community where beauty and confidence are celebrated every day. I’m focused on expanding my service menu in the future to include my clients’ most requested services. I want to continue providing a safe space for my clients, where they can trust their artist and know they will receive quality results.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities have been particularly impactful: dedication, effective communication, and adaptability.
Dedication: The commitment to constantly refining my skills and investing in my craft has been crucial. Being a good artist goes beyond completing the Minnesota-required 200 hours of apprenticeship. It’s about continually investing in private training, seeking mentorship, and taking courses that focus on specific areas of personal struggle. For example, if you struggle with mapping, invest in a course just for that. If color theory or photography is challenging, focus on those areas. Dedication has propelled me forward. For those starting out, I recommend setting clear goals and being persistent in your pursuit of excellence. Embrace lifelong learning, and don’t be afraid to make sacrifices for your passion.
Effective Communication: Building strong relationships with clients through clear and empathetic communication has been vital. It’s more than just listening; it’s about understanding their needs and educating them throughout the process. For newcomers, practice active listening and always seek feedback. This will not only help you connect with your clients but also refine your service offerings.
Adaptability: The ability to adapt to new trends, techniques, and challenges while putting your clients’ needs first is essential for staying relevant and innovative. The beauty industry is ever-evolving, and being open to change ensures you can meet new challenges head-on. For those early in their journey, stay curious and flexible. Be willing to experiment and learn from both successes and setbacks.
In summary, focus on dedication, communication, and adaptability as you build your career. These qualities will serve as the foundation for growth and success in any field.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
