We recently connected with Beverlee McMillen and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Beverlee, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
This may sound a little strange, but I think it all started from the moment I was born. I had a fight in me after the doctor told my mom that I had an 80% chance of being brain damaged from having the umbilical cord stuck around my neck for 2 and a half minutes. Luckily, I overcame those odds! I have always been a strong minded individual since childhood.
Any challenges I have had in the past I have faced head on, whether big or small, and overcame them.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the owner and stylist of Nuance Hair Studio in Lone Tree. I focus on the experience I give to women when they are getting their hair done. Each and every client that sits in my chair gets 100% of my attention and I want them to feel beautiful not only on the outside, but the inside as well.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities that are impactful on my journey as being an owner of a small business and hair stylist is: staying true to yourself, being humble and never being too good to learn. There is always room to learn from others and learning from your mistakes is most important. I never try to be someone I am not and try to stay true to myself and my values. What you see is what you get!
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My husband has always been my biggest cheerleader in my journey of self employment and running a successful salon studio. He nudged me along to go from a commission salon setting almost 10 years ago to my own studio suite. I have not looked back!
