Meet Sam Salhab

We recently connected with Sam Salhab and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sam , you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?

That’s easy, my mother! She would give the shirt off her back to someone who needed it, and even those that don’t. Generosity is quite an overlooked business skill. When you first start out, you have to be willing to give people as much value as possible without expecting anything in return. It’s not easy, but I find the more generous I am in other avenues of life, the easier it becomes in business as well. The bottom line is that I have learned that how generous you are will define you, both in your business and personal life.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Our company’s mission is simple: to unite people of different perspectives using boutique coffee to create moments of connection, celebrate humanity, and enrich the lives of our customers and the communities we serve.
The company is the brainchild of my wife Danya Sarsour and I, as we have had to live with my recurring stomach issues throughout our marriage. Our journey into the coffee industry was also motivated by our children, who also suffer from severe food allergies, and as a result have strong stomach issues. The aim was to create a pure coffee free of common allergens, toxins, molds, pesticides and other chemicals that not only cause severe allergic reactions, but also are harmful to the human body in the long term. Being driven by the global values of hope, unity and respect, Pangea aims to educate the world about digestives issues using only the finest coffee to bring people together.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

You have to take failure well, because without failure there is no success! Patience is also a must have attribute in business, as you will usually get what you want with some effort, but not at the time you want it usually! This leads into empathy, as you also have to be able to put yourself in someone else’s shoes to be successful.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

They helped me recieve the best education they possibly could! And because they did, I feel like I can do anything. You can be physically free, but without an education, your mind will still remain locked up.
