We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Janeka Jordan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Janeka, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I’m going to be very transparent in this moment.
My resilience came from being the oldest and being born to two unemotionally supportive parents. My grandma always speaks to me about God as a child and she instilled a lot of gems within me that I didn’t realize until I become older. As a child I was never given a chance to feel or be emotional. So I knew I couldn’t rely on my parents so I honestly kept the mindset that no matter what happens I’m going to keep going. I think as a child I just had a sense of knowing, I was always smarter beyond my years and that helped me build resilience.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hi Everyone, for those of you that don’t know me my name is Janeka and I’m originally from Detroit, Mi. I’ve loved writing since a kid, it was my escape from my life. I’ve always been active on social media and my platform constantly grew bigger and bigger. After a bad break up I was inspired to write “Know That” it’s an upbeat inspiring song that reminds you to never forget who you are no matter what anyone says to you. I’m currently working on projects that I plan to release later on throughout the year.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
For me I would say. Resilience, Balance and having a sense of knowing. Life is going to happen and you can’t let the bad with you down. You have to take that and say okay now what can I turn this into. You have to know yourself because others will always try to make you feel like you can’t reach your greatest potential.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, I’m all about creating and collaborating.! I’m looking to collaborate with like minded individuals who have a passion for what it is they are doing, those who truly have a message and want to help the collective.
