Meet Piers Baron

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Piers Baron. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Piers, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

My parents, I was a latch key kid from 12 years old. It was pretty clear to me from that point on that if I wanted something, I needed to work to get it.

It’s your duty as an artist to make the work look easy, but if you wanna make good stuff, it’s graft.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I just finished my new album, I’m hoping to get it out soon, 13 tracks to be released sequentially.

It took me 4 years to make, which isn’t that cool in all honesty, but I wasn’t happy releasing anything until I was 100% happy with it.

If these songs come out and nobody cares about them , that’s a shame, but if they came out and they weren’t the best execution of my original idea, that to me isn’t acceptable, hence the 4 years.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Focus on your craft and learn the business side of things.

I see a lot of younger artists getting heavily caught in the marketing side of the business and that’s cool, but learn about the business side of it, try and keep as much control as possible, if you can keep your masters, that’s huge, get an attorney to look at anything you sign.

A great song beats any marketing campaign.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

Frequently, however you need to remember that most people have no idea what they are doing.

be open to learning new ideas
stay true to yourself
don’t copy what’s popular, its already done
make lists
curate your life for you to stay inspired
