We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiffany Conway a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My optimism comes from the simple fact that I’m still here. Every day that we wake up is another day and an opportunity to try again applying whatever you have learned from the day before. My optimism comes from the fact that I’m still standing, regardless of the odds and obstacles that are temporarily in my way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Tiffany Conway is a Bay Area painter who creates vibrant, imaginative works that celebrate the African Diaspora. Tiffany brings a bold, expressive style to paintings that explore the intersections of past and present. While largely self-taught, Tiffany is an award-winning artist and participated in exhibitions across California. Her paintings seek to capture the full spectrum of human experience, drawing from both memory and imagination. Using bright colors and fluid forms, this painter creates worlds that are at once grounded in history and infused with modern spirit. Whether depicting daily life or the inner landscape of navigating life, this artist’s works are emotionally resonant and visually striking, using the human figure as a window into the Black experience. Through bold figuration and imaginative storytelling, this painter creates work that is by turns joyful, thoughtful, and celebratory.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
As an artist, the most important skill you will have is the ability to rise again. Resilience in art creates resilience in life. Audacity is another. We must be bold and courageous enough to allow ourselves to be seen trying and taking risks.
And lastly, to be a student. You should always be willing to learn and grow in your art practice and in life.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am eager to explore home staging and illustration projects for both small and large brands! One project I’m particularly excited to tackle is collaborating with a wine brand to design a wine bottle label. The thought of sharing laughs and telling stories with friends over a bottle of wine brings me joy, and I would love the opportunity to contribute to those special moments.
