We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Fakaira Gabriel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Fakaira below.
Fakaira, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Honestly, I recently made a conscious decision to stop comparing my journey to others. At the heart of impostor syndrome is comparison. There will only ever be one me. So any room, platform, or position I find myself, I know I deserve to be there. Another thing that helped me overcome feeling like an impostor was realizing that we all have learning curves, and sometimes we’re just figuring things out as we go. I shouldn’t discount myself simply because I don’t have all the answers. Imposture syndrome starts with our mind, so if we renew our mind toward things that are positive we will eventually reflect it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’ve often been told I talked. . . A lot. I’m a communicator at heart—content creator, YouTuber, writer, and marketer. So I understand the value of my words, and since surrendering my life to Christ, they have been a lot more impactful.
I have my brand, Unbottled Secrets, where you’ll see different facets of me depending on the platform. On Instagram, I showcase my aesthetic and fashion sense. On TikTok, I’m relaxed and fun. YouTube is where you’ll find longer discussions, faith-based teachings, and my microlocs.
What excites me most about Unbottled Secrets is that I get to share parts of my personality that only my friends usually see. Plus, I get to do what I love while honoring God in the process. It’s truly the best of both worlds.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The top three skills that have helped me navigate life are communication, resilience, and adaptability.
Communication is essential; understanding how to relate to people is crucial for making an impact. Knowing your audience, telling a compelling story, and mastering language can take you far. That’s why I chose to get my degrees in this field—I knew that words hold weight in this world, and proficiency in articulation would get me far. To develop your communication skills, I suggest writing more, being thoughtful and intentional about what you say, and perhaps joining Toastmasters for public speaking.
The other two skills, resilience and adaptability, are ones I’ve developed along the way through experience. Life doesn’t always go as planned, so it’s important to be able to push through challenges and pivot when necessary.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Since I mentioned my faith, the book that has recently played an important role in my development is, of course, The Bible. Within those 66 books, I have found something that addressed or helped me overcome any season in my life.
