We recently connected with Rene Wiebensohn and have shared our conversation below.
Rene, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
The two most important pieces of advice I’ve ever gotten that made an instant impact on my confidence were:
1. They don’t read your resume at your funeral. Hard work is super important, I grew up in the Midwest and it’s completely ingrained in me. However, people remember how you make them feel, not how many times you make President’s Club at your sales job.
2. Other people’s opinions of me are NONE of my business. I’m sure many of us feel this as we revel in middle age. It’s a very freeing realization and after that epiphany, most of my anxiety evaporated.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
The Renéighborhood, Inc. I am in love with the city of Los Angeles. Its unique and diverse neighborhoods, incredible views, its dog friendly establishments and of course, the tacos(!) make this the ideal place for me. My passion is connecting with and helping others. Real Estate is the perfect vehicle for me to make a difference in people’s lives. I understand that a house is more than four walls and a roof. It’s where you celebrate life’s wins, recuperate from its blows and plan for the next big adventure. Selling and buying a home can be a complicated and emotional process, which is why it’s so important to trust the team you choose to represent you.
A consistent record breaker in neighborhood sales, I am an experienced and consistent negotiator with a knack for solving problems. I’m known for closing tough transactions with ease and provide top notch, uncommonly thorough service. I am fiercely protective of my clients’ best interest and as a result, have developed a strong referral-based clientele.
I live in Highland Park with my incredibly talented wife and our rescue dogs, Gracie and Ori. I look forward to welcoming you to the Renéighborhood!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Grow a thick skin. One of the biggest weaknesses I’ve seen when in a negotiation, is people who takes things personally. It’s business. As soon as you realize that, you’ll be able to have tough conversations with ease.
Leverage relationships. Become the go-to person in your friends/family about your specialty. This is how you being to build your sphere of influence. The vast majority of my clients are referrals. Once you build a network, it’s only up from there.
Ask to be mentored. Most great business people and/or great leaders would love to act as a mentor. Don’t be afraid to ask!
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
An often overlooked part of being in real estate is that we hold a lot of stress and anxiety for our clients during the many weeks or months of a transaction. We are really good at it but sometimes we really need a break. I have a wonderful business partner, Kelly, and we are great advocates for time to rest and recharge. On the very rare occasion we share a day off, you can find us at the spa or snoozling with our dogs.
