Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Karla Gregg. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Karla , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I overcame confidence and self-esteem issues by focusing on who I wanted to become. For a long time, I was caught up in the mindset of needing to graduate college, get a good job, and keep moving forward. I was working in the Hollywood entertainment industry on various television shows, aiming to climb the ladder to become a producer. Alongside that, I was managing a YouTube channel and trying to find my person through dating.
Then, I lost my dream job in Hollywood and had to move back home. This was a turning point for me. I had to ask myself, “Who am I beyond my career? Who is the person behind the job title?” Losing my dream job forced me to look inward and focus on building confidence within myself—not based on dating, job titles, or what I had or didn’t have. I had to discover who I was, what I offered, what my values were, and what I believed in.
By doing this inner work, I was able to rebuild my confidence and self-esteem from a place of authenticity and self-awareness. This journey has made me who I am today, someone who values personal growth and true self-connection.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’ve always been someone who was afraid of everything. I remember going on a Tinder date once and playing Never Have I Ever. During that game, I realized the guy had done so many things I hadn’t. At that time, I was 23, working 12-hour days as a production assistant in television, and I felt like I hadn’t truly lived. I hadn’t traveled the world, learned a new language, or pursued my passions outside of work.
This realization was a turning point. I decided I needed to do more with my life. I started traveling, launched a YouTube series called Never Have I Ever where I tried new things, and took on new challenges. These experiences helped me build confidence, but they also kept me constantly on the go.
When I lost my dream job in Hollywood and moved back home, I had to reflect on who I wanted to become. That pivotal moment didn’t come until I felt lost. I was making choices that weren’t in alignment with who I was, and I ended up losing my sense of self. I realized I didn’t want other women to lose themselves because they didn’t know who they were or what they valued.
Through inner work like subconscious reprogramming, hypnosis, and connecting with my spirituality, I found my purpose. Now, as a personal growth and courage coach, I help women be their true selves, live in alignment with their values, and step into their courage. I guide them to do the things that scare them, whether it’s ending or starting a relationship, pivoting careers, starting a business, or pursuing long-held dreams. My goal is to help them overcome fear and limiting beliefs so they can be confident and have better relationships with themselves.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most important areas of knowledge I gained during my journey were learning to forgive myself, understanding my values, and reprogramming my subconscious mind.
1. Learning to Forgive Myself: We often forgive others quickly but struggle to forgive ourselves due to shame or guilt. Forgiving yourself is powerful. I did this through hypnosis and the Ho’oponopono prayer, which focuses on forgiveness. My advice is to practice self-compassion and use tools like meditation or therapy to release self-blame and guilt.
2. Understanding My Values: Knowing what integrity, courage, and confidence mean to you personally is crucial. It’s not just about listing values but truly understanding and living in alignment with them. I recommend taking time to define your values clearly and ensuring your actions reflect these values daily.
3. Reprogramming My Subconscious Mind: Techniques like visualization, Mental and Emotional Release, hypnosis, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) helped me reprogram old beliefs and create new, empowering ones.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
The person who has been the most helpful in overcoming my challenges and developing essential skills was my mom.
My mom played a pivotal role in my growth. She saw me at my darkest, at my lowest, and asked, “Where’s your light?” That moment was crucial. However, it also required me to be ready for change. My mom could encourage me, but if I wasn’t willing to make changes, I wouldn’t have progressed. It was ultimately my decision to seek therapy and hire a coach that moved me forward.
So, while support from loved ones is invaluable, true change begins with your own decision to take action and improve. It’s essential to recognize when you need help and be proactive in seeking the right resources to guide you on your journey.
