We were lucky to catch up with Megan Ritchie recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Megan with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Honestly, my work ethic has been cultivated through the challenges I faced growing up and the responsibilities I now hold as a parent. Unfortunately, both my husband and I aren’t close with our families and we don’t really have a support system. It’s the lack of support that has motivated me to be self-reliant, resourceful, and to give my best effort everyday. When you come from nothing, the allure of success becomes even more captivating.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the founder and owner of Fine X Feral Cosmetic Studio, a business dedicated to the art of permanent makeup, with a specialization in creating beautiful, natural-looking permanent brows. For the past three years, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to work with numerous clients, helping them rediscover their confidence through transformative brow enhancements.
What I find most exciting and special about my work is the impact it has on my clients’ lives. Many of them come to me feeling insecure about their brows, whether due to over-plucking, medical conditions, or other reasons. Witnessing their joy and newfound confidence after a successful transformation is truly gratifying. It’s not just about enhancing their appearance; it’s about giving them a renewed sense of self-esteem and empowerment.
My journey began with my solo venture, Brow Baby Cosmetic Studio, where I focused solely on brow services. As I honed my skills and developed a loyal client base, I realized there was an opportunity to expand further and share my knowledge and expertise with others. That led to the evolution of my business into Fine X Feral Cosmetic Studio, where I now not only offer high-quality permanent makeup services but also teach aspiring artists the art and technique of permanent makeup.
As for the future, I’m thrilled to announce that Fine X Feral Cosmetic Studio will soon be introducing a new service: lip blush. This addition has been widely requested and will provide even more options for our clients to enhance their natural beauty through permanent makeup techniques.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey in the permanent makeup industry, I believe three qualities have been particularly impactful:
Passion for the Craft: Above all, my passion for the art of permanent makeup has been the driving force behind my success. It’s essential to find something you genuinely love and are deeply interested in, as it will fuel your determination, push you to excel, and keep you committed during challenging times.
Continuous Learning and Adaptability: The world of permanent makeup is constantly evolving, with new techniques, products, and trends emerging regularly. Staying at the forefront of the industry requires a commitment to continuous learning and a willingness to adapt.
Client-Centered Approach: One of the most critical aspects of my journey has been putting my clients at the heart of everything I do. Understanding their needs, listening to their concerns, and tailoring my services to meet their expectations has been key to building a strong clientele and lasting relationships.
To those at the beginning of their journey in the industry, I offer the following advice:
Be Patient and Persistent: Building a successful career takes time and effort. Be patient with yourself and the process. Stay persistent, even when faced with challenges or setbacks, as perseverance is key to achieving your goals.
Seek Mentorship and Guidance: Don’t be afraid to seek mentorship or guidance from experienced professionals in the field. Learning from those who have walked the path before you can provide invaluable insights and shorten your learning curve.
Practice Regularly: The more you practice, the better you become. Dedicate time to hone your skills, experiment with new techniques, and refine your artistry.
Stay inspired by surrounding yourself with those that drive you to excel.
How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is someone who appreciates and values honesty, transparency, and realism in their interactions. Someone who is open to discussing their goals and desires for their permanent makeup, while also being receptive to my professional advice. In addition, I appreciate clients who have a sense of humor and can handle a bit of colorful language, as my personality is often described as unapologetically genuine. A client who can share a laugh while maintaining a professional and respectful demeanor creates a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere during our sessions.
