Meet Alex Vega

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alex Vega . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alex , so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?

My self-discipline comes from my family and background in team sports. I come from a class of hard-working immigrant Americans who really installed the importance of a good work ethic and through their story, I use it as motivation to keep myself going. I think for any one to succeed, having good self discipline is a key factor in letting their true light shine and reaching their max potential. Sometimes that means going against the grain and defying the status quo. I am grateful to have had that installed in me at a very early age. I also credit my 15 years of baseball experience. I started at a very young age and continued all the way through college. It is a beautiful sport that taught me how to prioritize and work hard for what you want, which again includes keeping yourself accountable.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Well, I just graduated university from CSUN with a Bachelors of Science in Biotechnology. Before music and sports, I grew a passion for science- pretty much ever since I learned the word ‘Why?’. Asking questions quickly became one of my favorite things in life and I think science is an excellent route to satisfy the “itch” to ask questions. My goals in the biotech industry are to join a team and help uncover more mysteries about the way our body and the world works. That is fun and exciting to me, because not only do you become apart of something bigger than yourself and potentially help people with disease or unfortunate circumstances, but it allows me to really appreciate the gift of life that God has given to all of us. As I get older, Im accepting that I may not get to find out the “Why?” to a lot of questions, and that is ok. Through my education and knowledge about what we as humans can figure out, it draws me to God more, and it teaches me how to trust in Him.

Aside from that, I am a passionate artist, audio engineer, producer and songwriter who loves to collaborate with good people. Musically, I am focused on refining my craft in all areas and sharing positive and real messages that the world can relate to. I want to make people laugh, cry, dance, and shout because that is what we all do every day.

I recently released a song called “Don’t Play’ with Aly-Slay, who is a dear friend of mine and someone who has a pure and genuine heart. The song was written by Aly and I, and produced by another dear friend of mine GM Beatz. This song is just the beginning of what I feel I can do with the right people and opportunities, and I hope you can go listen and enjoy! You can find me on Instagram as @vgamusic21, and I just want to give a quick shoutout to my family, girlfriend, and Undrgrnd Magazine who has inspired me along my journey! Love you guys!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

First, I thank God that I am alive and have everything I need. I thank Him for the parents I have who had me very early on, who could have fallen into the statistics of young couples who would not have made it. But with the help and grace of God my family is together and strong. Having a relationship with God and/or just having a solid background spiritually has helped me tremendously throughout my journey and I encourage everyone to have that.

Second, I think getting an education has helped me gain understanding of tangible and intangible things in life that may cause people stress, anxiety, and worry in their life. I am not perfect, but everyday I grow closer to understanding that a lot of things are out of our control, and you must worry about only what you can control. Being a good person, being a good citizen, not hurting others etc.

Lastly, I think admitting that sometimes you need help is a quality that I am most appreciative of. A lot of people get stubborn and caught up in their ways. I have found myself in that predicament. But I think self-awareness plays a pivotal role in getting yourself out of a rut.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I am feel overwhelmed I try to focus on the present. I try to meditate and pray. I also enjoy working out, making music, going to the beach. I try to get that “runner’s high” feeling and start counting my blessings. I need help with this sometimes, so I make sure to surround myself and open to people who have my best interests at heart. Having a support system is essential to getting through overwhelming times. To the people that might not have a support system, PRAY and ask God to take away these feelings. He can do all things and is faithful.
