We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kaylee . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kaylee below.
Hi Kaylee , you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
My mother Ada Johnson has always played a huge part in the generosity that I have. The way that she gave to others so selflessly has had a major impact on my life decisions today as well as my desire to help and be supportive to people I encounter in my everyday life.
She would always say “helping people is how you stay blessed” and I’ve been ever since.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Kaylee and I’m a Licensed Esthetician and Body Sculpting specialist from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
I started my business almost 4 years ago during the pandemic.
Before the pandemic, I was an accomplished musician who had achieved international success, but as we know, the world went to a complete stop.
For me the pandemic made me think about other skills, and passions I was interested in and had suppressed for a long time.
The beauty industry for me was a no-brainer because I have always enjoyed a nice self-care day or two. I love to look good because when you look good you feel good.
I decided to go the route of learning about non-invasive body sculpting after seeing one of my favorite YouTubers try it out during her self care day.
Non-invasive body treatments minimizes stubborn fat from areas of the body such as stomach, thighs and arms. I wanted to try it out for myself so after some searching I found a local spa in my area that offered the services and discovered that there was effectiveness in the treatments after about 4 sessions.
Soon after I after decided to take a class to officially become a Non-Invasive Body Sculpting Specialist followed by returning to school to become a Licensed Esthetician. I’m now the proud owner of Elite Beauty Body & Spa where I specialize in luxury customize facials and non-invasive body sculpting treatments.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
If I could name 3 skills that was impactful on my journey. #1 would be mastering social media!
We are in the era of social media and it will be highly effective for your business with gaining new clients. I’ve had so many clients say that they fell in love with my personality or content through social media and now are long time clients.
#2 Don’t be scared to get out and network!
It may be a little uncomfortable to go out and let strangers know about your services, but I guarantee you will get use to this and it will definitely help to attract new potential clients to your business. Remember sometimes strangers will support you more than family and friends. So hand out those business cards, be confident and knowledgeable in your area of business and watch what happens!
#3 Watch business podcasts and invest in self-help books, Most importantly, find a mentor!
A mentor specifically can help navigate you, as well as prevent you from making a lot of costly mistakes as a new business owner. If you want the most success for your business reach out to someone in your field who has seen the level of success your looking to reach and has the years under their belt, it will benefit you more than you know!
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my mother has done for me was help me to understand the importance of credit and credit scores. I’m learning now in business that credit is something that benefits my business significantly.
Having the knowledge at a young age has helped me to better understand credit as an adult for my personal life and now has helped me as a business owner. Thank you mama, Rest in Heaven. I love you forever ❤️
