Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Melissa Pettograsso. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Melissa , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
How I found my purpose is more a tale of how I have come to see my worth. Self-limiting beliefs have plagued me my entire life. I struggled to see the beauty in anything I had to offer. I have always wanted to be someone of service to others, to leave a positive imprint on the lives around me. At 48 years old and for the first time in my life I can say, I am doing just that and it all came into focus, simply by skipping a stone.
There is something about being near the water that brings me back home to myself. It gives me clarity and peace to sit and witness the majestic nature of the river carving its way through the earth. The wisdom and answers are always there when you choose to stop and listen.
Imagine for a moment standing at the bank of a river. The reflection of the morning sun off the water balances the chill in the early morning spring air. Crouching down to feel the frigid water swirl through my fingers, I spot the perfect skipping stone! Tossing it out into the river it splashes on the surface five times before sinking! Tiny currents of swirling energy blossom and swell forming rings. These miniature waves of water push across the surface advancing toward one another. As the two converge the energies of each ring unite and balloon creating an expansion of beautiful energy.
As I watched the rings spread toward one another I was struck by the realization that the river was reflecting back to me, what I was creating in my life. See, about a year prior I took a chance on an idea. I blindly followed my heart and chose to step out of my comfort zone. I created a sacred healing space for those seeking a deeper understanding of self and desires to raise their vibration. I would name it simply “The Circle”. I had no idea what would become of this idea, I just knew I felt a deep calling to make this offering. I was overwhelmed with gratitude and terrified at the same time. I had 3 people sign up for the first 4 week series and to my surprise each week they would return, and every week a little more of me would emerge from the self-lack and doubt. As the weeks grew, so did the healing and The Circle. Today The Circle has more than doubled, and the work that we are doing is profound and beautiful; however, the true magic begins when we leave The Circle.
As we learn, grow, and heal, we transfer that knowledge and wisdom to our lives, and each of us becomes a ripple in the world around us. It’s said that one person alone can’t change the world, but it only takes one brave person to try. We are just like the tiny waves of water pushing across the surface creating an expansion of beautiful energy. Maybe it is simply, inspiring someone to follow their heart, stamp out self-doubt, limiting beliefs and the external noise, and encourage them to be scared but, do it anyway! Perhaps that alone is all it takes to create a ripple that could change the world. If the imprint of one stone can set into motion a powerful and beautiful phenomenon, imagine what we can do when we imprint our energy on the world around us.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a Reiki Master and I absolutely love what I do! As an energy worker, I have the privilege and honor to help guide people on their healing journey. Empower them by, deepening their knowledge and awareness of energy, and the role it plays in their life. We are all energetic beings living in an energetic world. Everything is energy, emotions, the words we speak, the food we eat, the environment… As my clients become more aware of how to feel energy in and around them, they realize how it impacts their health, motivating the necessary changes for healing.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The single most important piece of knowledge, to have impacted me on my journey is, the realization that there is no such thing as perfection. The idea of perfection is trying to force yourself into someone else’s mold. Learning to be authentic, and embracing your skills and strengths makes you the best at what you do. We all have something unique and beautiful to offer. Embracing that is the most beautiful and empowering thing you can do for you and your business. Also, understanding that what you have to offer may not be for everyone and being okay with it is a powerful place to be.
How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is open to allowing the possibility of the healing power of energy work. It is difficult for people to conceptualize the healing from receiving energy work because energy is not visible. This makes it easy to dismiss its value. My goal is not to, try to convince people that energy work has real value and healing ability, but rather to show them that when you are open to receiving the healing is profound.
