Meet Tona Michelle

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tona Michelle. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Tona , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

To keep my creativity alive, I embrace a few key practices. First, I make it a point to explore new ideas and trends regularly, whether through reading, attending workshops, or engaging with other creatives. This constant exposure helps spark inspiration.

I also prioritize setting aside dedicated time for brainstorming and experimentation without the pressure of deadlines. This allows me to play with concepts and techniques freely. Additionally, I find that stepping away from my usual routine and seeking new experiences—whether it’s traveling or trying a different hobby—can rejuvenate my creative energy. Finally, I always maintain an open mind and allow myself the freedom to evolve and adapt my ideas.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

At October Moon Branding, we specialize in comprehensive branding services with a strong focus on revitalizing and enhancing brand identities. The most exciting aspect of my work is the ability to transform brands through tailored strategies and creative solutions that make a significant impact.

One of the latest developments is the addition of our new Podcast service. This initiative aims to help podcasters elevate their shows with a fresh, compelling brand identity, complete with enhanced visual and audio elements. Our goal is to provide podcasters with the tools and expertise they need to stand out and connect more effectively with their audience.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Reflecting on my journey, the three qualities and skills that have been most impactful are:

1. Adaptability: Being able to pivot and adjust to changing trends and client needs has been crucial. In a dynamic field like branding, flexibility allows you to stay relevant and innovative.

2. Creative Problem-Solving: Developing unique solutions for diverse branding challenges has helped me stand out. This skill involves thinking outside the box and approaching problems from various angles.

3. Effective Communication: Building strong relationships with clients and understanding their needs relies on clear and open communication. It’s essential for ensuring that the branding vision aligns with the client’s goals.

For those early in their journey, I recommend:

1. Embrace Change: Be open to new ideas and experiences. The ability to adapt to evolving trends will keep your skills sharp and your work innovative.

2. Practice Problem-Solving: Take on diverse projects and seek out challenges that push your boundaries. This will help you develop creative solutions and gain valuable experience.

3. Focus on Communication: Work on honing your communication skills through active listening and clear expression. Strong communication will not only help you understand client needs better but also build lasting professional relationships.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?

I believe it’s essential to strike a balance between leveraging your strengths and addressing areas for improvement. While focusing on your strengths allows you to excel and establish expertise in your niche, investing effort into developing weaker areas can enhance your versatility and adaptability, which is crucial in a fast-paced industry.

Focusing solely on strengths can lead to a narrow skill set that may limit opportunities for growth. Conversely, trying to improve every weakness can be overwhelming and detract from honing your primary skills. Therefore, I recommend identifying key areas that complement your strengths and working on those selectively.

For example, in my journey with October Moon Branding, I initially concentrated heavily on creative design, which was my strength. However, I recognized the importance of effective marketing and communication skills in promoting my brand. By investing time in improving those areas—through workshops and practical experience—I was able to enhance my overall service offering and attract a broader range of clients.

One story that illustrates this balance involved a client who initially sought my help for visual branding. While working on their project, I discovered that they struggled with articulating their brand story. By applying my improved communication skills, I helped them clarify their vision, which not only strengthened their brand identity but also led to a successful rebranding that resonated with their audience.

In summary, focusing on your strengths while selectively improving complementary areas can lead to a more well-rounded and effective approach in your career.
