We recently connected with LaTasha Hyman and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have LaTasha with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I thank God for the awesome parents he has blessed me with. They have been great examples of how a person should strive to walk in integrity and be a person of good stewardship. I was always told to be careful of the company that you keep. With that being said, I always kept good company by surrounding myself around positive people. I am very observant and an excellent listener. Therefore, I would have to say, not only did I learn great work ethics from my parents but also from my teachers, previous supervisors, and spiritual leaders.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Lady T Vends is a full line vending machine service provider. Our service is unique because we provide businesses with the opportunity to customize the type of vending machine they want before placement. During our product selection process, we invest time in researching what is trending and most needed for the specific clients of the location and we provide those items. Our business has expanded. We are now offering non-traditional items, for example, beauty merchandise into our vending machines. Lady T Vends is constantly looking for new ventures to add to our vending machine business.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
When it comes to the vending machines business, everyone seems to think it is passive income. Vending is a lot of work. As an owner you must spend a lot of your time in the business. Owners spend time doing research on the type of products they will sell; what’s a trendy and highly profitable item. You must determine what brands will be affordable and popular with your client. Owners will need to have skills in managing inventory and creating catalogs. Vending machines owners will need to watch sales to determine price. A retail background is a plus when it comes to vend monitoring sales and can help decide when to increase prices or discontinue an item. One must have good marketing and time management skills when it comes to advertising and restocking the vending machine. Business owners will need to have good budgeting skills to save for slow sales months and new inventory. Also, you will need to budget for new vending machines when it’s time to expand your business. Owners will need great negotiation skills to be able to land new locations and potential clients. You may have to negotiate a percentage of sales income that will go to the clients and possibly a placement fee. I recommend new business owners invest time in researching the business and networking with other business owners. Having a mentor is a bonus.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
