Meet Kaelyn Marie Fuglaar

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kaelyn Marie Fuglaar. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Kaelyn Marie, really appreciate you joining us to talk about a really relevant, albeit unfortunate topic – layoffs and getting fired. Can you talk to us about your experience and how you overcame being let go?

Truthfully, overcoming being laid off was a longer process than I thought and came in waves, not all at once. Before I was laid off, I knew my time was coming to an end. I was already dreaming and scheming of what I would do next. But, I thought I would be the one who quit, not the other way around. On the phone call, I was shocked, shaking, and hurt. It led to me thinking I wasn’t enough.

I was given 30 days and from that moment, I made a commitment to myself that I wouldn’t go back to an office job. After a quick, failed digital marketing attempt, I launched my own virtual assistant business, 26 days after my last day at the job. Ten months later and it’s turned into a 6-figure agency with a team of 4 amazing women under me, I’m now coaching other virtual assistants, and working on my own time.

So truly, I overcame by not giving up, not settling for less, and not going back to what was comfortable just for the sake of safety. I genuinely believe anyone can build a successful business if they’re willing to put in the work, make mistakes, and find healing along the way.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m Kaelyn – KMVA Agency’s CEO & no. 1 give-it-to-you straight hype woman.

In the span of a year, I washed my hands clean of a 9-5 job that took the life out of me, started a VA biz where I landed my first client in two weeks, and now teach 450+ Virtual Assistants through my online courses, guides, and personal coaching.

Since then, I have created my *absolute dream team* of experts to learn the KMVA method and support like-minded female creative entrepreneurs freeing them from their mental workload, scaling their business, and reclaiming their personal life.

I love my business but I love my life more. I’m a wife and mom to two amazing kiddos who keep us young. We love exploring outside and traveling to new places. Recently, I have fallen in love with pickleball and am trying to keep up with my husband (he’s a pickleball pro and I think it’s the coolest job ever).

I offer 1:1 personalized coaching for anyone wanting to build a successful virtual assistant business. I also have an amazing online course coming for anyone who is looking to scale their virtual assistant business, land high ticket, dream clients and become confident in this industry.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The 3 qualities I think that have impacted me the most in my journey are: being okay with failure, not caring about what others think, and staying true to my values and who I am.

I have tried more things in my life than most people would in 2 lifetimes. I say this proudly now, but with every change, I felt (and heard) disapproval from family and friends. If I let that stop me, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I graduated college in 3 years and realized that although I was on track to become a physical therapist, that’s not what I wanted for my life. So I pivoted (and pissed people off). I’ve been a network marketer, a real estate agent, a wannabe social media influencer, a property manager, an insurance agent, and more. I didn’t want to settle and create a life of stability, I wanted a life I was IN LOVE with.

As you can see, I failed many times and it took longer than I hoped, but now I never have to wonder “what if.” Life’s too short to not pursue your dreams. Just start. Then try, fail, try again, and keep going until you love the life you created. Patience will be your best friend, too!

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

My parents are a huge part of my success and I can’t thank them enough for always making me do the work. They made sure we got good grades, did the school projects ourselves, and never missed a (softball) practice. Because if you don’t do the work or you have someone else do it for you, you’ll never truly succeed.

My parents both came from Cuba with their parents at a young age and a solid work ethic is what created the amazing family we have now. I’ve never seen a more successful, diverse family line than the one I was blessed to be born into. My grandparents paved the way, but my parents carried the baton and I can only hope to hand it off to my children, too.
