Meet Mike DeMarino

We were lucky to catch up with Mike DeMarino recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Mike , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Originally grew up desiring to be like everyone else and getting others’ approval. As soon as I started to let go and focused on making myself happy, my confidence and self/esteem increased. This generation focuses too much on one/upping others, looking cool in front of others, and going out and partying. What gave me the ultimate fulfillment was going out and doing something (starting a business) for me

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m the owner of DeemedFit Apparel, an apparel for first responders. Part of the mission is donating a percentage of proceeds to first responder non profits such as Tunnel To Towers, Beyond the Badge NY, PS I Love You, and more nonprofits that focus on the mental health of first responders.

I’m also a full time police officer, so my profession resonates with the audience.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Patience, consistency, and confidence. When I started DeemedFit Apparel, I had no knowledge of the apparel industry or how to create content or anything needed to develop a brand. I studied other companies, tested many times with content creating and designing apparel, and stayed the course. I treated every failure as a lesson to better myself for the journey, and I never lost confidence in the overall goal.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

My father was the most influential person in my life. He was a full time police officer for 27 years and was a tremendous leader in the NYPD. He had the confidence and skills to own any room he was in, and I am blessed to have been raised by him. My father passed way from 9/11 cancer in 2019, so his line of duty death motivated me to do good for first responders through the creation of DeemedFit Apparel.
