We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Samantha Mack a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Hard work is a value in my family that has been passed down through generations. My great-grandparents immigrated to the US from Lebanon as teenagers in search of the American dream, and because of their determination, they established a family with generations of hard workers. I have grown up hearing their stories of grit and endurance, so it has always been engrained in me to set goals and work for them. My parents, aunts and uncles, cousins, and siblings all reflect these traits and display them with humility and generosity. I have been a direct benefactor of the fruits of their labor, and I endeavor to follow their lead everyday.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am an Interior Designer specializing in spacial planning and material selection for new builds and remodels. In July of 2023, I started my company, Mack Design Co., with the vision of helping families love the homes they have created. It is my passion to see projects come alive from start to finish with the reward at the end of seeing my clients build their lives in their forever homes. I love continuing to learn and having a hand in each step of the process. My job is exciting and multifaceted because it blends creativity with functionality, modernism with classiness, and personality with standards.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Personal qualities I have learned to apply are endurance to take a project to the finish line, detail-orientation to be able to leave no stone unturned in the process, and passion for my craft. Professionally, the three most important skills I have learned have undoubtably been CAD software, social media presence, and implementing theoretical designs in a physical home. The best way I have found to learn and improve my skills is through trial and error. Obstacles will come, but I have learned that you have to be willing to take the bull by the horns and roll with the punches. The end result is far greater than the challenges that present themselves along the way.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is someone who is willing to go outside the box and take the creative, bold steps toward a unique and beautiful home. I love classic and timeless designs with a touch of modern. The ideal client understands that the design process is all-encompassing and extensive, but together we can accomplish their dreams. They are willing to go back to the drawing board over and over until their home is perfect for their budget, their preferences, and ultimately their family.
