We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Paula De Diego. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Paula below.
Hi Paula , thank you so much for making time for us today. Let’s jump right into a question so many in our community are looking for answers to – how to overcome creativity blocks, writer’s block, etc. We’d love to hear your thoughts or any advice you might have.
Being a creative person is hard, because your colleagues or clients always expect you to be on top of everything and putting your all into a project or a task, but when that creative block comes it doesn’t disappear in a minute/hour/day, it can take a while.
A lot of the times, you need to take a breather and simply go touch some grass, physically and metaphorically 😉. Creativity is not something you can force or have 100% of your time, so for me, taking a walk, reading books and magazines, talking to friends, travelling or even just doing creative physical activities (like painting or working with clay) can help me get new ideas and motivation to continue. Other times, doing very boring tasks also brings out the creativity within you!
These blocks are sometimes related to mental health and how overwhelmed/overstimulated your brain gets from everything you’re doing. So letting yourself relax, not always being “on” will benefit you in more ways than you can imagine.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m the founder, CEO and Creative Lead at Land it, a small women-led marketing studio based in Valencia but with a worldwide mentality. We love collaborating with personal brands and tech startups in B2C + Fintech world. We work with clients like: Contra, Tango, Eraser, Remento, Pangea, etc 🤠 We mostly offer services in Social Media, Influencers and Content Design.
My job centers around managing all operations, overseeing the work my small team of 3 does and working on strategy, design, and production. At heart, I’m a creative marketer who always wanted to have her own business and took the leap to help entrepreneurs thrive and grow to new heights!
Something I’m extremely proud about is that we’re a 1% for the planet member 🌍 and we’ve been donating to several environmental projects for the past 2 years. We believe in the phrase “doing our part”. That’s why we love to collaborate with companies that share our principles and are open to be better environmentally speaking.
We’re taking a new direction with the business and focusing on the podcasting world, where we’ve working in for the past 3 years, but we’re open to new opportunities that relate to podcast management, social media and PR.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think having good time management, empathy and a good sense of organization have saved in more than one occasion. I’m big on having more soft skills and knowing how to operate a tool, because they take a lot longer to master. Maybe it could be because I’m a zillenial and grew up with technology all of my life, but learning a new hard skill is not as harder than, for example, becoming a problem solver.
A good tip to develop more soft skills is talking to people and asking them to solve different problems. You’ll learn how they would manage different situations, how YOU would manage them, and what you feel about their response. Like I said, this is not something you’ll learn in a day, but as you start growing you’ll start seeing small changes in your communication and management style that reflect this!
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
I’ve been working on my management style and I think I’ve improved a lot. Having systems to delegate, active communication and always owning up to mistakes or protecting them from clients, is my number 1 priority.
Another aspect I’m always trying to improve is client experience. Deliverables and quality is extremely important but if you don’t communicate what you’re doing, if you don’t have meetings to present concepts, get feedback and ask them about their experience, it’s hard to understand the client. I could always be better, but I’m slowly becoming better at being more constant.
