Meet Koby Hyde

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Koby Hyde a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Koby, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I think resilience is within all of us, but having a support system that is encouraging is where that resilient attitude can grow. A little encouragement can go a long way, especially when it is coming from loved ones. I owe that to them, and I have carried that “can do” attitude throughout life. Whenever there is a obstacle in my way, I try to see it as a challenge, and not a burden. Having a positive mindset is essential to becoming resilient. You can’t have one without the other! So, s/o to my wonderful family for instilling a positive attitude when I was just a pup.🫶🏻❤️

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Hey what s up, my name is Koby Hyde. I am a Muralist and Freelance Artist from Knoxville Tennessee, Residing in Austin Texas. Through life, art has always been very important to me. It actually saved my life! When I was 15, I suffered a severe brain injury and was left in a coma for a week. It was a long road to recovery and making art was instrumental in the process. The struggles I faced were rehabbed partially through making art. I fell more deeply in love with my craft and continued to pursue it through college. I am now a full-time muralist, and living my dream. I like to use bright, vivid colors in my work and implement lots of symbolism and expression. I have over 30 murals throughout the country (mainly in Austin and my hometown of Knoxville Tn). I aim to inspire the younger generations to never give up and always chase their dreams. The world is yours.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think passion drives it all. Passion is the key component to drive.. in ANYTHING! Also Consistency and Creativity. Idk if it’s possible to make it in anything if you aren’t talented in a specific field you want to be in.. but if you happen to be blessed with the ability you’re already halfway there. The other half is the hard part! If you get up every day doing the same thing you want to do for the rest of your life, then eventually things will start to play out in your favor. HOWEVER, there is adversity that going to try to get in the way. There will be Judgement from peers, doubt, losses, etc. Rome wasn’t built in a day, know it will take time but that consistency will catch up eventually. If you can figure out how to weather the storm, keep it pushing and get through the BS the sky is the limit!!

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My ideal client is someone who is familiar with my work and has a trust in my ability. The ones that just let me be an artist and create for them. I have had clients in the past that try to micromanage everything about the project. That’s a red flag.. ABORT ABORT ABORT! Lol I’ve also had some clients that are just looking for an artist to paint something for them but they didnt even look at my work and were expecting a different style.. which is degrading to any artist. Jay Z can’t sing like Morgan Wallen. It’s essential to make sure your client is familiar with your work so there is no misunderstanding. So s/o to the clients that do their research and the ones that have trust in the artist!❤️🤝
