Meet Tee Sharma

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tee Sharma a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Tee, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

I have been in this situation many times in my life and continue to be in this situation. I would say I definitely use it to my advantage. Often times there is a curiosity about me and this gives me an opportunity to educate others about me. I never let this deter me from sharing my story.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

As the owner of Assisted Living Locators North Tampa, I provide a no cost, senior placement and referral service to my local community that offers the best care options, information, and resources available. Previously, I had a successful 30-year career in the financial industry, I started working in the Financial District in NYC while in college.
I have always had a passion for problem solving and helping others. I decided to retire from my career and build on my knowledge and desire to help our vulnerable seniors and their families. As a Senior Care Advisor, I provide a vital layer of support and guidance for seniors and families to find the right care solution. I love the fact that my services are free to families!

I will be launching a Certified Patient Advocate role as a complement to my services to families.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I would say the most important and one that is difficult to teach is Empathy. In addition, as part of relationship building and emotional intelligence a good listener and understanding how and when to take action as a result.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

The huge obstacle I am facing is educating the general public about our services. Families are not aware that there is a No Cost service that helps them in their search for senior living options such as assisted living and memory care. I also help with independent living. I spend a lot of time marketing to help build awareness to the public. So many families that have come across my website have told me that this service one that every family that is struggling with senior car e and living should know about it.

They often try to do this on their own and either make the wrong choice or get frustrated and frazzled in the process.

I would like families to know there are placement agents that can help them and also accompany them on tours to the communities. That is a best practice for our industry. Again, my services are FREE to the families.
