Meet Althea Young

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Althea Young. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Althea with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I accredit my work ethic to both my parents. My Dad worked in a factory my whole life, taking on full day shifts from sun up to sun down. My mother worked as a school teacher for over 20 years. I’ve watched her passionately educate and pour into youth for as long as I can remember. Through their example I learned to never give up. Even when I am tired, I rest, restore, and rebuild.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My name is Althea Young I am an innovative entrepreneur with more than seven years of experience in the fashion retail sector. As the founder of NoBasis Co, a personalized printing company, I have established a reputation for providing distinctive and top-notch products for the B2B and B2C markets. I hold two business degrees that have equipped me with knowledge in business management and strategic planning. In addition to my business pursuits, I am enthusiastic about education and mentorship. I serve as an Entrepreneur-In-Residence at a local non-profit, where I mentor aspiring business owners and support local entrepreneurial initiatives.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The answer to this question has changed over time, and depends on which phase of business I am in. However, one important skill that I use consistently is problem solving. The reason for entering into business is to solve a problem for your customers. If you’re not solving a problem you will not have a sustainable business! On the flip side of that, while you are working to create a solution to the customer’s problem, you will more than likely face problems of your own. Approaching problems with an open-mind, setting time aside for research, and being flexible has attributed to me honing in on this skill. Other important skills include having a good understanding of financial management knowing your margins can make or break you! Lastly, communication skills to reach and convey your brand messaging properly to customers and stakeholders.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

We believe that joining forces with like-minded artist and brands could lead to unique and exciting projects. We are always on the lookout for artist, brands, organizations, photographers, videographers, and models to connect with. Collaborating was a huge part of our business back in our hometown. Now that we are in a new place, I would LOVE to collaborate with creatives here in Memphis, TN.! If you check out our website and socials and feel like our brands can create magic together, please don’t hesitate to reach out to speakup@nobasis.co with your ideas!
