We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ekaterina Evdokimova a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ekaterina, thanks for sitting with us today to chat about topics that are relevant to so many. One of those topics is communication skills, because we live in an age where our ability to communicate effectively can be like a superpower. Can you share how you developed your ability to communicate well?
As an extrovert and an empathic person, I have always been a good communicator who was able to create a comfortable atmosphere for any conversation.
Before I used to talk a lot about myself during conversations. I think my ego was speaking in me. I wanted to show people how smart and successful I am, how I efficient I perform myself in this world.
Over the years my perspective on that has changed. Regardless of my young age I went through a lot of challenges in my life. Moreover, 3 years ago, I stepped on the path of self-development, self-search, spiritual growth that helped me to expend the boundaries of my mind.
Now I prefer to listen to my interlocutor more than to speak out. On my level of consciousness, I figured out that I don’t need neither anyone’s approval about the choices I make in my life nor permission to be my authentic self and to live this life the way I want.
People I communicate with always find support and a safe place to share their deepest doubts, fears, happy moments and thoughts in our conversation. I have an ability to see through people and say what they need to hear. I never judge but always express compassion to people’s life journeys, cause for no one it’s easy to live this life, even if someone’s life seems like that from a perspective of the others.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
5 years ago, I opened my business – a language school. Myself I speak 3 languages fluently: Russian, English, and French. I am also learning Arabic, Spanish, Italian, and Turkish. I am sure that knowing languages is really beneficial because of multiple reasons: it helps to expand the horizons and the level of consciousness, to be more open-minded and understanding towards people of different cultures, to improve your brain work, to develop patience and perseverance. Moreover, it is an irreplaceable skill for traveling that allows you to feel comfortable in a country you visit and get the friendliest attitude from the locals.
So, seeing and experiencing all these advantages made me want to share my passion for languages with my audience (my students and in social media). Currently I am teaching languages for kids and adults: Russian, English and French.
For me my mission includes not only teaching to implement some knowledge but reveling the personal strengths in every student through speaking in different languages about variety of topics according to my students’ lifestyle, background, interests, and goals. Also, my personal example of strength and resilience inspires my students in their endeavors.
Recently I wrote my first book. It is called “Letters from the Universe: A Therapy of Self-love and Self-appreciation” and is available on Amazon. It is a spiritual read about various aspects of life that all people face. This book brings up such topics as self-love, trusting the process of life, not giving up, and following the dreams. It helps to build the confidence, to conquer the fears, and to appreciate life with gratitude.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Love yourself. It doesn’t mean to be egoistic, but accepting yourself the way you are with compassion. We all need to do a work to become better versions of ourselves. However, I am sure you already have something to be proud of.
2. Do what you love. Don’t let anyone to tell you what you must do in this life. You don’t owe anyone anything. If you feel passionate about something, just do it. Sooner or later the fruition season will come. Behind all great successes there is much work, efforts, and failures.
3. Keep balance. Organize your life the way you have time for work and rest, for friends and family, for hobbies and having healthy habits. All these will help you to feel happy and complete.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
