We recently connected with Raven Anderson and have shared our conversation below.
Raven, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Keeping my creativity alive derives from the term “The World Is Your Oyster”. Life & everything in it acts as a fuel & inspiration for a creative flow.
I am constantly inspired by the things around me whether it be a sneakers, a piece of jewelry or a song that captures my attention with its lyrics.
As I’ve grown into the artist that I am today, I’ve learned to understand myself as a person & how I want that to exude in my work. The creative process has its highs & lows & gliding with the curves of it all has kept me away from a burn out along with persistent time management.
Learning when to apply pressure & when to ease up has allowed me to hone in on the vision in order to complete projects & move forward.
Being a creative isn’t the only part of me, but it is the most prominent. The creativity will naturally grow as I learn to harness it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Raven Rajean is an elevated streetwear brand that thrives on the individuality of its consumers. Each garment is designed, patterned, and sewn with the intention of creating an unmatched experience for the consumer. With the garments coming directly from our sewing machines to consumers, there is a luxury experience added to the quality of the product. This brings confidence that the custom garments are not only made for the consumers body but for their lifestyle.
With Raven Rajean we plan to reach each person that connects with individulality and appreciate the attentiveness to garment construction. We strive to be in the hand and closets of the people who express themselves without caution and know that with patience comes greatness. We will expand in a way that is safe and secure not only for ourselves but for our environment as well.
I couldn’t settle for one, so two of the most exciting things about creating garments is to see a sketch or idea come to life (exactly how you imagined) & to also see the model or customer wear the piece.
At one point in my life it seemed like a deranged idea that I would be able to make a functional garment, so to see the exponential growth walk down a runway or pose for photos at an event is extremely rewarding.
We are currently working on PT.2 of “The Prototype”. This collection is based off the idea that the consumer decides the look, the trend, & the feeling they portray with the garment, to consider themselves as the “Prototype” of their idea of fashion.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
On this journey, the will to learn has been the biggest & most important quality. The world of fashion & garment construction has a depth that takes persistence & patience to learn in a realm that is changing & growing everyday.
The advice that I want to share is the same advice that was given to me which is to keep going. At times we question if we’re on the right path but if you have a constant will to achieve your goals then there is no question. Also surround yourself with people who want the same things as you and believe in you as much as you believe in yourself. We often want to be able to do everything by ourselves but it’s simply not possible. Find your people.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
There has been many things that my parents have assisted in with the development of my career. Ive been blessed to have parents that have believed in me since day 1. I’ve gone from being & cheerleader & tumbling in gymnastics to focusing on Volleyball & Basketball year round to finding myself in the creative world. Each time my parents have not only been supportive, but have encouraged me to discover new versions of myself & have allowed me the space & comfort in the process.
They have never allowed me to fall away from the things I am passionate about & they’re one of the biggest reasons why I’ve developed the work ethic & persistence that I obtain.
