We recently connected with Robert Jacob and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Robert, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I have always have a very outgoing personality. In High School, I studied drama and other performing arts. However, the 31 years I spent in the United States Marine Corps really developed my confidence. In addition to many leadership classes, real-world experience as the officer in charge of four units and the commanding officer of a Department of Defense formal school refined my skills.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My focus in on teaching history accurately and dispelling myths and incorrect facts. I do this in my books, lI have three, and in my lectures. This is especially true where pirates are concerned, as my books are on pirate history of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. But I also cover other areas of history, such as the truth about General George Armstrong Custer, early European colonization of North America, and the gunfight at the OK Corral.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Speaking in clear and concise terms, extreme attention to detail, ability to research a topic to not only ascertain all the facts but to gain a full understanding of the big picture.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
They taught me to think outside of the box and allowed me to follow my interests. I began reenacting (living history) when I was fifteen.
