Meet Jerrick Thomas

We recently connected with Jerrick Thomas and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jerrick, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I got my resilience from looking around seeing my family was headed for a dead end with no real chance of opportunities growing up poor in the projects of my hometown in Shreveport, La. I knew I didn’t want the same thing for myself and being the oldest of my siblings I saw it as a chance to step up to the plate and be the example for them to see anything is possible.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
In 8 years I’ve become a household name , I am the evolution of artistry that manifests in Literary works and theatrical interpretations. A Shreveport, LA resident, proudly born and raised, I remain open to exploration and expansion as a life learner and creative graduating from Southern University in Shreveport La in 2021 with degree in Psychology and currently working on my BA degree at Louisiana State University in Shreveport La.

My journey into full time artistry started in 2020, but my creative journey has been in motion prior to 2020. My career as a self-published author with titles emerging in 2017, my works include Coming Full Circle, Coming Full Circle 2, The Confessions of a Conceited Drama King, Catching Up with Me, Quarantine Quest, and Groomed for Trauma with many more to come.

It is my goal to share my voice and talents with other creatives. It is also my mission to inspire and motivate members of the both African and Native Americans and LGBTQIA+ communities to share their voices and visions through our love of the arts”

I got into the industry working as an actor working with Cherie Grey of Lumpy Grits Artistry on various projects including stage plays Elektra and Measure for Measure and some other event local events as well as Kristi Woodard on a web series #Situationships on YouTube and 2 films The Blind the Duck Dynasty Biofilm and Never Alone for Christmas (BET+App) that were in theatres last year.

I offer a self-publishing workshop teaching future authors and writers tips to publishing their own books on Amazon Kindle Publishing website since 2021 as well as interviewing over 300 local artists and business owners and promoting local events on my podcast A Lil Tea Time since 2021 as well. The self-publishing workshop has proven a success for my clients who went on to start their on self-publishing workshops as well and as client ML Dumars winning the Critical Mass Literary Eleven award in 2023. In Critical Mass Eleven 2023 I was an Honorable Mention by Literary Arts Critic Sanderia Faye for his poem Wishing Well. I was named one of Shreveport’s Regional Art Councils Roster Artists in 2023. ”which was a very prestigious honor.

And most recently I was the model for a figure drawing and painting classes adding something new to my tool belt.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, what do I think are the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that are most impactful on my journey would be I never gave up on myself. I became a wolf fighting for and protecting my dreams. I’m a natural born leader thanks to my grandfather James Carter Sr and father James Carter Jr who were also natural born leaders. We all are the 1st born sons in our family and I take great pride in knowing I’m apart of that legacy. Finally I’m a great example of coming from nothing to become a Community Leader, Local and National Celebrity and Household Name pursuing my dreams and goals while being the boss of my time.

The advice I have for folks who are early on their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these is just being your authentic self and you’ll attract your tribe or the people who are suppose to be in your life. Treat everyone the same and I do mean everyone, but do make adjustments to keep the negative people from disturbing your positive energy. Trust yourself 100%, your thoughts and intuition will come in clear when you know who you are and whoms you are. Be willing to walk alone at the cost of protecting your peace and sanity because it will be a long and lonely journey for those chosen ones.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
My particular challenge I’m currently facing is rebranding my YouTube channel Jerrick with A Lil Tea Time. I’m submitting fresh and new content to my channel to gain new followers. My vision and goal is to monetize my to channel as another source of income and continue to promote the local artists and business owners around my hometown in Shreveport, La. and finish my pursuit of my Bachelors Degree in Psychology out at Louisiana State University in Shreveport and continuing to promote my book brand to the masses and land some number 1 best sellers around the world.
