Ninilola, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Growing up I have had many reasons to give up on my dreams because of stumbling blocks. As a result of this, I have learnt to maintain a perspective of understanding why I am going through those issues and how I know it won’t be forever. I have also gotten myself accustomed to taking every situation I find myself day by day, brick by brick. Although it may be slow but it will get done.

I am a millennial who founded African market that caters to a region that has a dearth of such market. With a undergraduate degree in Public Health and a Masters degree in Biostatistics. I worked in the corporate sector as a data Scientist for a few years. In September 2022, I got the vision to open the store and in April 2024 the vision of Oak African Market came to life. This is a modern African market that represent every part of Africa by providing a many items that Africans in diaspora crave and desires to enjoy despite being in the diaspora. It is located in Pasadena, Anne Arundel County of the state of Maryland. The goal of Oak African Market is to be a home away from home where all the African items are found from food, to clothing , cosmetics and a lot more
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Resilience, Determination and Patience. Do not let setbacks kill your dreams, when you feel let down, pick yourself up and get back on track. It is okay to feel let down but don’t stay down.

The Atomic Habits. All big things come from small beginnings. The seed of every habit is a single, tiny decision. I made the decision to start this business and through the little steps I took, It amounted to what the business is today.
