Meet Suzanne Nadell

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Suzanne Nadell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Suzanne, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Finding my purpose was definitely a journey. For the longest time, I was convinced discovering my purpose was about one specific thing. Over time, through reflection, surrounding myself with wise people, and perhaps just getting older, I discovered my purpose had many layers, and I could fulfill my purpose in all aspects of my life.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m a wife, mom, and TV news boss whose passion it is to share “Life Lessons” I’ve learned from juggling “faith, family, and career.”

I’ve been married to my husband for 23 years. I have a teenage son. And I run one of the nation’s top local TV newsrooms.

When I’m not busy with those three things I have a blog, I create courses, speak, and in March, my first book is launching.

It’s called “Wired to Lead”. In the book I share “Life Lessons,” I learned in newsrooms, that I wish I learned in church. I didn’t in that space because of my gender. Instead, I learned how to lead, and valuable “Life Lessons” that align with my faith, in newsrooms.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1) The ability to dream big! If I didn’t dream big, I wouldn’t have something to drive toward.

2) Resilience. I work in a field that can be tough. I’ve also undergone cancer treatment twice. Two different types. I won’t let cancer define me, but it has changed me. It’s given me perspective, and I won’t let anything keep me down.

3) The ability to listen to people and tell their stories. It served me well in the news business and it has translated to all areas of my writing.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

My parents were of course very helpful in forming the foundation of who I am.

I’ve also had great bosses over the years. Bosses who were patient but also pushed me out of my comfort zone, and helped me to discover how to be the leader I want to be.
