Meet Carrie Veatch

We recently connected with Carrie Veatch and have shared our conversation below.

Carrie, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

I don’t know if I’m half glass full or glass refillable! The truth: I lived for so many years in cycles of victimhood, pessimism and self-doubt. And really the only person that was truly suffering was me. As I age, the more I recognize my responsibility in making myself happy. In choosing my own outlook and perspective. I often say that I have less tolerance for my own unhappiness the older I have gotten.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I can’t imagine my life (now) as anything other than a business owner. I own a couple businesses now! I’ve always craved freedom and entrepreneurship is the path that allows me the most freedom. I love that I get to choose the projects/clients I work with and that I’m in charge of my own schedule. It allows me the flexibility that I desired for so long before I ever had it.

Currently I have my coaching business where I coach entrepreneurs to scale their businesses past 6 figures with time and location freedom. And I have a property business where I own short and long term rentals and manage other people’s furnished rentals. I’m the Co-Community Leader for the Denver Airbnb group (volunteer role) and absolutely love the community of hosts.

Seven years ago, I packed my life in two suitcases and moved to Asia from Denver. I was craving adventure and more freedom. I lived and traveled abroad for nearly 5 years throughout Asia and Mexico while running online businesses. It was the “reset” my soul needed after being extremely burnt out. I had studied earlier retirements and mini retirements for years and taking that leap to leave my comfortable job as an Executive Director with no plan B, was one of the scariest and best things I ever did for myself.

Next up: a fun real estate dream I am working on!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three qualities and skills that I believe have been the most important on my journey as an entrepreneur: resourcefulness, creativity, and sales. I most certainly did not want to believe that I would have to learn sales and avoided it for a long time because like many I had negative connotations associated with it. Yet, what I have learned in the journey of entrepreneurship: sales = service. When you have a way to help people, it’s your duty to show up and help people. Adults are empowered to get to decide if they want to buy or not.

And then creativity and resourcefulness are absolutely essential in the world of entrepreneurship! Problems will absolutely always occur, but it’s our perspective on them. I remember the day that I decided there were no more problems….only solutions. Potentially cheesy, but it serves me to think of it that way since my brain loves a good challenge. This mindset has and continues to serve me to remember that there is always a way if I’m willing to stick in it long enough.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

Whenever I’m feeling super overwhelmed, I take a break immediately! I’ve learned the hard way that pushing through usually does not help. My personal go to is movement. I honestly don’t know how people are entrepreneurs without a daily or at least a few times a week fitness routine. It saves my mental sanity for sure! Everyone is of course different, so sort out what is best for you and what will help you to get out of your head and into your body. For years this looked like yoga for me. Lately it’s long walks and heavy weights that help me the most! Oh and a walking pad is wonderful to be able to walk at least 15,000 steps while I’m at a computer!
